Title: Journeyman Bay Storage Drawer
Post by: steve on January 02, 2025, 09:02:25 pm
We have (2) two Journeyman storage drawers in our primary pass through bay, they are the ones with the squeeze / pinch latch on the front.

I want to temporally remove them so I have better access to get some work done.  I can see the main carcass is secured with a few bolts, but when I went to remove the drawers, I could not find the release latch on the slide (accuride) to release the drawers.

So what is the secret to release the drawer slides?

You may not get any answers as it looks like rivets need to be drilled out to remove it. I will be watching this one to see if I am wrong.

Learned something today.

In my 1997 U295 I took mine out. Been a very long time ago but I don't remember having to drill anything to remove it.

Looked at picture of slide.  I think that you take a flat screwdriver and pull up on tab that's in the middle, then pull drawer out.  Once side loose go to other side, making sure that you don't let the side you finish pop back

Steve are you referring to this type of pullout tray?  I'm not sure because of the reference to Accuride slides.  If so, on mine I can simply lift out the bottom plywood of the drawer frame and unbolt the whole assembly from the basement floor.

Steve are you referring to this type of pullout tray?

It's these 2 upper drawers he's needing to remove

Ok.  First time I've seen that type of drawer.  I have the Journeyman (Joey Bed?) big drawers and then I have a couple of small wood drawers with Accuride slides in the fuel bay.  Did he get it figured out?

I poked around and could not find any release mechanism for the drawers, I think as these are heavy duty really intended for first responder vehicles, they don't want to take any chance that they could pull out.

I wanted to remove the drawers primarily to reduce the weight of the assembly, so removing them would be easier.  I ended up emptying the drawers and then removed the wood bottoms which lift/slide/tugga out.  I then hoisted my floor jack into the bay and supported the assembly using it and a section of 3/4 plywood centered under the drawer.

Next remove the (4) t15 bolts, lower the drawer and slide it out.  They are somewhat heavy, not bad when you are standing on the ground but I would not want to do the legs up, arms up, turtle maneuver.

During this I found our second hidden key container squirreled away in the drawer assembly, this one contained a key for the front door deadbolt.

Are you leaving them out? They are where all my spare parts go. I would hate to have to carry a storage container and have to dig to the bottom for a fan belt, AH nozzle, fuel filters etc.

They will go back in when I'm done working in that area, they are very nice to have.  I was simply tired of being jammed in that area while doing various upgrades/fixes.  Once back they will be filled (again) with various spare parts and "stuff" :D
