Title: Progressive HW50C EMS no time delay
Post by: Michelle on January 12, 2025, 10:37:47 pm
I've sent a "Contact Us" e-mail to Navico/Progressive Industries, but wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this behavior on a Progressive EMS unit.

As part of Steve's major electrical upgrades, we are replacing the 10+ year old Progressive unit with a new one with a second remote display and A/B switch box.  The new unit is passing power within 5 seconds of being energized by the transfer switch (probably less than that).  We have verified the remote displays are in Normal mode.  Have removed the time delay jumper to force it to 216 seconds (default as-shipped is supposed to be 15 seconds).

We thinking this unit is defective (if it is, we're 2 for 2 on new units being so).  Curious if anyone else has seen this.

To close this, Progressive tech support responded that the new units only use the time delay (15 seconds with jumper installed, 216 seconds with it removed) after an error occurs.

Initial power up will pass power within 6 seconds.

It becomes important that one's transfer switch has a time delay on generator power (to allow generator output to stabilize) if the Progressive EMS is installed after the transfer switch.

After an error occurred, does the time delay stay activated?

No.  If the unit detects an error and shuts down power, it will delay when whatever the issue is clears up and the unit prepares to pass power again.  Then when it passes power it will display the PE (previous error).  If power is removed due to unplugging/cycling/etc. the shore power breaker, there will only be the 6 seconds before it passes power.

Very different than prior units.

If you're looking for that time delay, I have a Surge Guard 35550 power monitor installed in my coach after the ATS's in the basement, so whether you've connected to shore power or fired the generator, it's checking the power.  It's start up delay is 128 seconds.  When running the generator, I believe there is a 30 second delay before the Power Tech sends power after starting, then 128 seconds for the Surge Guard unit, before load is applied to the power source.

I have the same setup but i installed the Surgeguard ahead of the main breaker panel at the foot of the bed.
