Title: Hydraulic Pump Seal Number
Post by: zmpm01 on January 15, 2025, 07:46:14 am
Does anyone happen to have the Hydraulic Pump Seal Number for 2003 U295 with the ISL 400? This is the seal for the pump that drives the cooling fans and power steering.

Mike,

Back in the day, when constructing the cooling fan hydraulic system, Foretravel had the habit of using whatever model hydraulic pump was handy at the time.  You are more likely to get a precise answer if you can take a photo of the ID plate on your pump, and post it here.  Once the exact brand/model is revealed, then if any member knows the seal number they will step forward.

Might read through this topic to see if it's mentioned Hydraulic pump Failed **ALL FORETRAVEL OWNERS SHOULD READ** (https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=47141.0)

I am not familiar with the Hydraulic pump setup for the ISL motor. But as you are near the same vintage U295 as I am, I would assume you also have the belt driven pump?

If you have the belt driven Pump AND it happens to be the tapered shaft 41188, there is a seal kit you can buy from QCC for the entire pump. Seal Kit,  10267, $50 . This Kit includes that seal.

In some talking with member here Bruce Beane, seems I recall he knew the exact seal number and has replaced his a time or two over the years. Give him a PM ping to be sure.

The ISL has a gear driven pump. Mike is after the hyd. motor seal. If the motors are the same as earlier years the seal size has been mentioned many times.

The ISL has a gear driven pump. Mike is after the hyd. motor seal.
If so, then he needs to rephrase his question.

His post states in the body he wants the seal for the pump that drives the cooling fans. He should reword the post title and the body with motor that drives the cooling fans.

The cooling fan motor doesn't drive the power steering, which is also mentioned in his question.

Good point maybe he is after the pump seal but you wouldn't see it leak as it is internal in the timing cover and would add to the engine oil. Also maybe not all ISL's have the gear driven pump which is all I found online. Personally I saw the pump on my brothers ISL.

Thanks for the Idea's.

The 2003 U295 Cummins ISL 400 8.9L has a belt driven hydraulic pump for the cooling fans and power steering, when I pulled the pulley and hub off to replace the pump with a 41188 purchased from QCC I could see the seal could replaced with the pump in place. I have decided to give the seal replacement a try being it's the only thing really wrong with the pump, I looked all over the forum for the seal number and could not find it, I see @bbeane has recently performed this task, and was hoping he would respond to this post.

Again thanks for the good Idea's, worst case I will pull the seal and track one down locally.

I pulled the seal and took it to a local hydraulic shop and they confirmed the measurements I was getting with my cheap Harbor Freight plastic micrometer by the way it was dead on!
Also bbean replied back to my PM with the same dimensions so I feel good about the seal I plan to replace it with.
The following is the part number the hydraulic shop gave me. Note: the part number contains the seal measurements.
(OS - 1.00 X 1.50 X 0.25 - TC)
Please do your do diligence and measure your seal. All pumps are NOT created equal and your seal may be different.

Thanks to everyone for the reply's and Ideas. Mike

Spoke to BBeane yesterday, see he did get with you. thanks for the specs, i will update my detailed hydraulic pump file for future ref.
All 41188 hydraulic pumps will have the same seal.
