Microwave Removal -
I'm having trouble figuring out how to access the bolts on the top. Does anyone else with a microwave in the slide have insight?
In the installation manual it shows the bolts coming from the top. But its in the slide and i dont see how to access them from the top
Also, I was looking at replacing with an lg model has anyone replaced a ge with lg? Any issues?
You will want to investigate the venting configuration when changing microwave brands, assuming you have external venting. The ductwork needs to be lined up and sealed to work properly. I know with the non-slide installations where the ventilation is done out the roof, there's definitely a difference in ducting between the original Sharp models and a GE Advantium.
If the current GE and the LG under consideration are both recirculating, that won't be an issue since there won't be any ductwork. The venting will be done into the coach (I wouldn't recommend Thomas Keller's roast chicken recipe in this case ;) )
Sometimes FT used screws that went from the case up, not down, so look for those first.
Otherwise you have to remove the slide topper. Normally the fabric center board is held in place with Velcro, so you can pull to remove that insert to gain access to the topper mounting screws, and from there remove it. After that you should have access to the microwave mounting bolts.
As Steve mentions, the fabric-covered insert should be held in with Velcro (it's thin luaun, IIRC, so be careful as you pull). From there, break out the Robertson screwdriver and start removing all the screws holding the slide surround in place. You'll probably need a helper to support the surround as the screws come out.
Once you remove the wood top piece, you should be able to access the internals and see any screws holding in the microwave.
Some photos to show what I mean about the inserts and the screws are here in our blog: Slide Room Sensors (https://www.irvblog.com/foretravel%20projects/Slide-Room-Sensors/)
