Title: What class of motorhome do i have ??
Post by: Bob & Sue on January 29, 2025, 08:38:43 pm
I totally can't believe I'm asking this question but here goes.  As we are attempting to enter a RV resort we were asked to provide "proof" that our coach was a class A. I said what else could it be?  And they came up with a pic of an Apollo from the 80s I'm guessing with a similar nose ( we have a GV ) and called it a class P. And no that's not a type O.  Never heard of a class P. ..... so bottom line they want something in print that states its a class A.  We've searched every scrap of paper that we have and found nothing stating it's a class A.    Ive never been questioned before and probably never will be again and we  would probably just move on but really want to try this park. Considering buying here.

So.. does anyone have paper stating your GV is in fact a class A. Or do we have a dam class "P".  Help...
If not i guess my back up plan is calling Foretrave in Nac and asking them the dumb question ??    The representative did say they googled JD Powers and it brought up the vintage of GV and called it a class A....but they want something in print. What a PITA.

JD Powers is highly respected and it is in print.  These people are nuts.  Nice find on the ad.
Surprised that they aren't pinging you on age.

Yes.... It should help and thank you.  And yes they are nuts... but, since the coach is 30 years old this year and I'm bucking their 10 year rule i feel ok with jumping through 1 hoop.

Just tell them it was designed and nurtured in the gilded age of motorhomes......don't know if that works, but sounds good.

Sounds like the park is run by Class A-Holes.

Show them what it's MSRP is. Doubt there was any class B in our price range

Ya the HOA found a pic of an Chevy Apollo with a similar nose. Can't seem to load a pic of it but it's about double the length of speedy Marie with a tag but the pic labels it as a class P, not B.  Who new ??
I just hope were not snobbed too bad. I was planning a full body paint on her 30th birthday so that may be coming sooner than later. After that they can pound sand if there's a problem but i do understand stand someone not wanting the Clampets next door.

The agent did tell me that Mark's pic should be just fine.  I guess some people know Foretravel's and some don't

When I first joined  FMCA, this was only a Class A club. They're requirements for Class A: if you can stand and walk in an erect manner from the captains chairs to the rear of the coach, you can be a member.
Of course, since all the political correctness crap is now- they call it Type A, Type B, etc.

There are folks with $100K invested in Vanagons and $150K in Sportsmobiles and other similar stuff.

The official industry association, RVIA, recognizes 3 classes.  A, B, C:

https://www.rvia.org/system/files/media/file/RV%20Types.pdf

Was the Apollo built on a Chevy/Workhorse P30 chassis?  Could the HOA be confusing motorhome class with that chassis identifier?  A coach on a P30 chassis is a class A, so whoever labeled that photo with "Class P" was wrong since no such motorhome class exists.

That's Just Not The Right Thing To Do !!!  They are telling You to "lie" about the information You are putting on an application. If you are allowed to be dishonest about one subject, maybe you can Lie about the number of people on the site, or whether or not you have a large Dog....  >:(  >:(  >:(

SOME of these park mgrs are clueless as hades on a number of subjects. Some, a lot of different subjects. I pray for patience but sometimes it's difficult.

I stayed in a campground in Marin county in California, the nice lady asked me how old my coach was and I told her 1987. She immediately told I could only stay for a week as my coach was "very old" then her husband asked me about the coach. When I old him it was a Foretravel he said that I driving the finest coach in the campground and I could stay as long as I wanted. He then told his wife about Foretravel coaches.

We ran into a similar situation in Port Aransas Texas. As the office was quizzing us the maintenance guy walked in and said ,it didn't matter what year it was "those are nice coaches".

I agree that it is a lie also  I took their response as to wanting us onsite in a Foretravel  Misrepresenting the coach age was away around their own rules especially online We really just sent pictures as requested to see if the age rule was flexiable Apparently it is

I definitely agree with you in general about lying.  In this case though, if the RV park knows what year you have and tells you to put down something else how is it dishonest?  It's more of a "spirit of the law" vs. a "letter of the law" type of thing.

Checking in to Fort Wilderness a month ago the receptionist asked me if the coach was new as I stepped out the door - I replied "she just turned 25!"

Definitely love the people that stop and ask "what is it?"

Not to stir the pot - but maybe listing the year as 20xx or 19xx (without the XXs!) rather than XX03 would eliviate the anxiety?!  :))

Personally I'm not going anywhere that they care how old my coach is...or what class it is for that matter - I stood in a beautiful Showhauler two weeks ago that would put most other motorhomes to shame and it's a C.

Id much rather tool around in a 20yo Foretravel Newell Bird or Prevost than most anything else built today!

Oh, the doubts that they had weren't as much about the age but more about the sloped nose of a GV.  They were just more familiar with flat nose coaches. I sent them Mark's pics and said it's a class A.... Pass it or don't !!

We had a very similar thing happen in Port A, I think it was the owner said something like 'oh never mind, it's a foretravel, they are always good'

But in response to the original question, yes you have a very nice Class A coach.
My understanding is that the class is determined by the chassis type used.
Here's a fairly accurate link that helps to describe the differences.
