Title: Salesman switch
Post by: dsd on February 10, 2025, 12:45:06 am
got back from our Jeepster chase trip. 72 hours and 2300 miles. Had two valve stems fail at the same time on the trailer. Will order extra TST pressure sensors. Next issue was when I was shutting down the coach in the driveway at home I flipped the sales man switch off and the interior lights and the radio stayed on???  Being tired i figured id deal with it tomorrow and just disconnect the house batteries. Removed ground at house batteries. No help? Still powered up. So I pressed the generator start button and it started right up??? Tired and confused I turned everything off and walked away. I think I must of flipped the boost switch on??? I'll look in the morning with a clear head.

Well the boost switch is in the off position. With house batteries disconnected I read 12.3 volts and start batteries are at  13.0 volts resting. There was enough power to start the generator last night so more to follow. Will connect house batteries and put everything away before looking father into it. Very odd.

Do you have a battery isolator and is it wired correctly? Boost solenoid stuck in the on position?

I bought one of these bead breakers so you can break the bead, install a metal valve stem or TP sensor or battery. Works on small wheels, big coach or even a big tractor wheel/tire. You can even leave the wheel on the trailer to change the valve stem. If you have a battery impact, it's almost an instant thing. Wait until you see the modification kit I'm making for the Harbor Freight tire changer.

Sounds like the battery isolator has failed.  Be thankful if that's the problem and you didn't cook the house batteries on your trip home.  Ask me how I came into this $3000 worth of knowledge?

Good luck,
Don

More crap to buy and carry. Rolling over tire with a front tire has always served me well. Trailer jack even worked better.
So I was unaware stems had different pressure rating, but that would make sense. Heck at home I carry emergency valve stems to install from the outside side in all the vehicles I drive and plug kits. MT doesnt have any recovery gear yet

So like a playful pet nipping at you but not biting the coach was still powered up this morning but during the day it shut down and it is working normal.  :headwall: now I wish I had dedicated TS time while it was failed. I do have a carbon load cell.  I can test the isolator. Just crazy
