My floor unit that is connected to the gas valve at the tank is 7 years old and started chirping and needing reset even though the gas is off and in storage. I know 5 years is the recommended life.
I ordered a new unit with the gas valve but just want to change the floor unit, The gas valve is a bear to change out.
Will that be okay?
Our OEM still works fine but I bought a couple of digital readout models and have installed one above the entry door. I also have a hand held for use with the diesel parking heater.

Mine is the original one, 1987, every once in a while I take a can of the compressed air usually used for computer keyboards and give it a couple of short bursts. End of problem, once a year seems to do the trick.
May find that propane detectors life can be greatly extended by momentarily disconnecting 12v power to do hard reset. Some have added a switch next to the detector to disconnect power.
It also pays to have redundancy for all detectors, so adding a new surface mount and keeping the old working can be a good idea.
Others will respond on how they disabled the propane flow solenoid at the tank. Some have removed the solenoid when doing any propane tank replumbing.
While at it add two wall mounted battery powered carbon monoxide detectors in the bedroom. CO can come into coach from many outside sources and a detector alarm will go a long way to prevent waking up dead.
