Title: 2002 u295 window valances
Post by: mbryan on April 01, 2025, 10:25:06 am
I need to repair some pleated shade broken cords and would like advice on the proper way to remove the window valance. Does it come off as one piece similar to a picture frame? Thanks,Capt stinger

Our valances came down as one piece, just have to really hunt for the screws sometimes.
After repairing our pleated shades a couple of times we ditched them and went with RecPro Legacy Day/Night combo shades.
MUCH BETTER
MCD is another great option for replacements.

On our coaches (2003 and 2000), the lambrequins (vertical side pieces) have been separate pieces.

ETA - The ones in the ends of the front slide would be a single frame piece.

Consider replacing pleated string-activated side window shades as they have privacy leaks and can disclose what is going on inside at night. Many replace with pull down shades, eliminating side valances for a more open wall look, and no more strings to deal with.

My 99 the top is one piece, and the sides are separate. A bit extension for your drill comes in handy. The screws in the top a Robert's (#2 square drive)

When I installed MCD shades, I was able to decrease the height of the top piece by about two inches and still cover the retracted shades.  It is a significant increase in the amount of window area and really opens up/brightens the interior of the coach.  You do have to recover the valence and I redid the lambrequins in cherry to match the cabinets (nice word Michelle!).

I have both Irvine Shade and Door and MCD.  Bought the Irvine for front windshield and driver/passenger windows.  Purchased at the Big Tent show in Q through a California reseller. They readily will provide all repair parts to individual owners. Rest of coach was done in McKinney by MCD a couple years earlier. The 8' front windshield is motorized and a dual shade, all others manual dual shades. Love them. As a full timer we raise and lower them every day, so much more convenient.  I think the Rec Pro are made by Irvine. PM me for a more detailed comparison of Irvine vs MCD. I think the MCD are more substantial but on all side windows the Irvine function the same. Recently saw Jan and Rich's coach with MCD front shades. Very slick installation.  There are several ways to work around the front instrument hump, some definitely more complicated than others.

An inexpensive option for shade replacement is household style pleated shades. We replaced some of ours with store brand shades from Lowes and some with Levelor brand. We have been happier with the store brand ones. They provide good privacy, and we kept the top and side valences.

We did the same. Increased R value as well.
