Title: Pressure protection valve
Post by: dlkj07 on April 12, 2025, 01:33:08 pm
My pressure protection valve started leaking out of the tiny hole on the bottom. I removed the bottom of the valve just to see the condition and everything looks okay. Not much corrosion, the rubber manifold piece looks in good shape.
Is there anything else that can be going on? I'm trying to save myself some time by not pulling this all apart to replace the valve because I leave on a trip in 2 days and didn't want to get into this right now until I get back next week.

Dylan,

In your 3rd pic. you are holding a rubber diaphragm with a metal washer. If you look real close at that piece there is a crack ring in the rubber. That is where you air is bleeding through at. Years ago you could get/buy a replacement diaphragm but that time has passed. I was told it was for safety reasons. The new vales are cheep enough though so order a couple as if one has failed the other one may not be far behind.

Napa has a replacement, guess I'll dig into it and replace it. Looks like I'll need to take some plumbing apart to get to it...just a tight spot and didn't want to spend the time this weekend.

Thanks.

Great idea as where you are now is better than on the side of the road in a picnic area.

Very true my friend, been extremely lucky so far that everything that's gone wrong I either caught it before a trip or it wasn't bad enough to strand us....yet 😁

I replaced mine. I left the housings in place and took the new valves apart and rebuilt the valves in place. Took about an hour to do both, no need to take all the plumbing apart.

Was gonna do that but thought they didn't sell the parts, ended up replacing the one that was leaking today. Wasn't too bad, also sprayed and tightened a few leaks while I was under there. Ordered another for the front tank and will tackle later.

Here's a post from the Part Number Collection topic with the various air tank fittings including the protection valves and cross-references
