Title: Trailer valve stems
Post by: dsd on July 06, 2025, 12:55:00 pm
On our recent trip Boulder City to Dallas then back we had several trailer stem failures. The new tires I installed are 110 PSI trailer tires. I installed new valve stems that I have always used and didnt give it much thought till I had two fail on the trip home, was peeved that the truck tire shop wanted 126$ to change two stems. So I bought the stems and changed out if front of their shop parking lot with the employees watching like a bunch of old crows. Used the trailer jack to break the beads and was on my way. When I returned home I replaced all the trailer stems with short Brass valve stems. Yes cost more and are subject to breaking if you drag them against rocks hence the special order short ones.

Scooter valve stems are robust , short.
Unfortunately they probably are not rated for 120PSI rating. This is were this whole problem started with valve stems rated at 100 psi
Side note, im now running screw on TPMS so that also adds to the loads. Im confident the solid brass stems will provide good service as they have for me for many years.
