Title: Low fuel genny start
Post by: Spiderhitch on August 13, 2025, 10:14:33 am
If fuel level in tank is below the fuel supply line to genny and low fuel is activated and you try to start.Does it try to start (crank) or will it not allow it to crank

I believe it will crank and won't start as there is no fuel.

On mine if you run it until  it gets air in the system ( shuts off due to lack of fuel) usually you have to bleed the injector lines. At least on Isuzu. It will turn over but no start if run if run out of fuel.

I don't run short of fuel anymore because I programmed a smaller fuel tank on my Silverleaf, so 1/4 full is more than enough to run the generator but low enough to make me anxious😊

Getting just below 1/2 and we stop for fuel. Who actually knows where the pickup tube is located in your coach? I don't.

In the Maritimes Motorcade years ago, I got below 1/4 tank because I didn't want to risk buying bad fuel on the island.  The PowerTech just stopped, requiring me to put in 30 or 40 gallons at a no name fuel station just before departing Newfoundland.  Bled the air with a simple open-ended wrench using the START button.  Fired right up with no load.  Once on the mainland my generator shut down the next day under load.  Then my Cummins started sputtering.  Bad fuel!  Sometimes you just can't win.  Two or 3 filter changes later all was well.  Funny now but then not so much.  Now I try to refuel at 1/2 tank and always carry extra sets of fuel filters.

I was at about 3/8 tank. It wouldn't  crank. It wasn't low on fuel I was throwing darts looking for solutions. Turns out, bad ground. Also found capacitor for fan had connectors that had completely corroded off. Hidden from sight. Remounted where accessible and turned connections down so water would drain off.
