Title: Fuel saving modules?
Post by: "Irish" on August 26, 2025, 11:21:51 am
Has anyone installed a fuel saving module or system that increases power and MPG on the
Came across this advert 12100 - Area Diesel RV Power Module ISC 8.3L & ISL 8.9L w/ CAPS Fuel System... (https://www.ultrarvproducts.com/12100-ag-diesel-rv-power-module-isc-8-3l-isl-8-9l-w-caps-fuel-system-98-05)
And got thinking that there would be a very good pay back due to savings which would be about $40 on every fill, but then wondered if they work as advertised or damage the engine in any way?

Wow, more power AND better fuel economy!  I wonder if Cummins has heard about this?  I would think that they would be VERY interested.

Sorry David, my comment sounds really dismissive when I read it.  I meant it to sound humorous.

This type of magical device has been around since I was a teenager, which was a long time ago.  In most cases they turned out to be a waste of money when tested under vigorous scientific scrutiny.

BUT, I could be totally wrong here, so don't let my opinion discourage you.

No problem--- you just have to decide which of the variables to sacrifice: Power, economy, engine/drivetrain  longevity or EMISSIONS.

Years ago if you bought every device that JC Whitny had to save gas you would never have to fill-up.

Its fooling the engine boost reading and injection pressure ( maybe). Its doing something with the injection control valve. So it could make more power and higher injection pressure might improve efficiency? But the way to improve fuel economy is to not push the pedal as hard. The throttle pedal controls fuel,  less fuel,  more efficiency.  There is no magic box.

I've seen these magic boxes advertised, they tell you that the fuel company's don't want you knowing about it, in my opinion there a scam, I might be wrong, but I personally wouldn't waste my money, not that I need to worry about things like that, being sutch an old vehicle it hasn't got any of the modern computers

I did not think anyone would have a good word about these add on's because no one has mentioned them in a discussion. Just thought it was worth asking. guess they are all making it something it was not designed to do, as John44 said, JC Whitney used to have them. I used to get that catalogue in the mail along with so many others back in the early 80's!
Thanks
