Title: Batteries: What is a Charge Controller?
Post by: George Stoltz on June 18, 2010, 08:41:18 pm
I've been meaning to ask.  What is the function of the Charge Controller connected to my house batteries?  How do I know if it is doing its job?  Does it alert me to a problem?

It is designed to shut down the current charging the batteries when they are fully charged. It goes to a trickle. It used in solar panel systems as well  and can also boost the voltage too.

Yup, basically a voltage regulator, generally used with solar panels.

They vary in degree of sophistication and in amp capacity.
