Title: Tracstar In-Motion Problems
Post by: Bill & Deanne Brown on June 28, 2010, 05:10:36 pm
My TRACSTAR SV260 appears to have failed.  I have been trying to reach someone knowledgeable at Tracstar all day without success.  Over the weekend I tried to access the on-line help and went through their registration and still it won't let me get any useful information like where they might service the SV260!  I talked to the IT dept but they were no help.  I've called thier Tech department four times only to get added to a wait list for call-back.  Does anybody know where I could go to get this TRACSTAR serviced in Michigan-Indiana area??  I need to move tomorrow but don't know in what direction???

This surprises me.

I've had to call them a few times, and always got right through.  Maybe you ran into their vacation scheduling.

I've found them to be very helpful, and anything that can wear out or go bad is easy to replace, and their prices for replacement parts (which come with instructions) are very reasonable.

I had to replace both motors in the dome (one at a time).  I also learned the LNB might need to be changed someday, as they weaken with age.

Tom,
That's good to hear.  The front desk who took my name and number did say they were short handed today, only 2 techs working.  Hopefully I'll get a back from them tomorrow.  They will probably call as soon as I fire this thing up and get on the road tomorrow  That's the way my luck been running lately.... We're having problems with our SV360 Tracstar too.  It will find every satellite (110, 119 91), but the one we need (101).  We have owned the coach since last December and it has always been "difficult" in that sometimes it would work and sometimes not.  Now it just won't find 101.  I called Tracstar back in December and they advised sending it for testing and repair.

I had the same issues. They were very helpful on the phone.
Spent considerable time going thru the diagnostics with me.
I had to get the new LNB, printed circuit board in the dome and the black control box inside.
They overnighted the parts as I was leaving for 3 months.
They even lent me the tester to update the software.

Update....I continued to have problems with our unit locking on 101.  Ended up having to replace the LNB and the IDB box inside.  Also upgraded the software to 3.06G.  Seems to work fine now.  The TracStar technical service guys were very helpful.

Wonder if anyone has any experience with changing the SV-260 from Directv over to Dish, just wondering if it seems to work well on Dish.
Many Tnx

I just did that Dave,,,,,,,,,,,,This Coach was set up for Direct with TracStar and after having Direct for 15 years in our Teton 5TH wheel's, we decided to switch to Dish...  Called Tracstar and for about $180.00 they sent new software and a diferent box....They walked us through installation and its working fine......

Only thing with Dish it has to switch satellites between 3.........Sometimes takes it a while when you change channels......  Where with Direct, it don't have to move ,,,it can get all the satellites from one angle....

I'm learning their system, but an old dog don't learn that easy........    Direct marks their stations better in the guide and its easier to get around in than Dish. But Dish will let me have all my networks, both east and west and give me HD on both. Plus Dish will let me change my locals where ever I'm at when ever I want to....

Glad the Pres/Pro is doing its stuff!

Mike, Good info, also wondering if Dish HD works with your Tracstar too or only on the home based bigger dish?
Agree on the switching time between the different birds, found that when ran the MCI conversion.
Over the past 20 years, have been on Directv, then Dish, then Directv and now looking hard at Dish again.  They all seem to have had the same issues about the RV market, and why I left Dish in first place was due to their instance that I hook it up to phone line, I said surely if you send me the cord to reach Fl from Va, NO, they wanted a new contract for the RV only, so went back to Directv, who had done the same thing years earlier.  Seems they just keep trying to increase their profit at expense of the customer, not unusual  is it...
Dave
PS yes the PP is doing well and why I ordered the air pac or what ever it is your selling.

The TracStar does get HD,,,but its not "TRUE"  HD..................The only way it can get real true HD is to have a "skew" adjustment,,,,,which it don't. It is excellent TV though!!  I haven't used my Dish reciever on a Home big dish yet..(with skew)......will do it in a couple weeks when I get to AZ..

Mike
PowerTank info is on the PressurePro website.......take a look at the FAQ's....Interesting!  Yours is on its way!

If you don't need in motion, the Wineguard Trav-e-ler does have skew, and gets great reception
