FLIP DOWN MONITOR FOR REAR VIEW CAMERA

Has anyone installed one as a replacement for the Javalina monitor in the dash?  I looked through  the posts on Javalina monitor replacement and it suggested I start a new topic since no one has replied for 120 days.  My old B&W still works but is not very clear or sharp.  I've looked at Greg Jones monitor replacement video, and think I could do that.  However, I don't like the location on the dash.  Seems like one of the after market DVD overhead flip down monitors for cars connected to a camera would work.  It could be mounted under the cabinet above the windshield on my 96 U270.  This would put it close to where most rear view mirrors are located and it would only be used for the rearview camera.  The old in dash monitor would be left in place for monitoring the tanks.  Some of these monitors are 16x9 ratio but I don't know if any of the cameras are 16x9.  I plan on replacing the camera too.  The best price no doubt would be the older 4x3 ratio.

I put in an Avic Z3 and a new camera but they make backup systems that look exactly like what you are describing. In fact I had one in my first Bornfree.  The issue I had with it was that it was too high and interfered with my vision if someone with a lot of lights came up behind me. THink a truck or a lifted pickup. Down  on the dash it is not as big an issue.  ALso, I can see my monitor as I am looking in my mirror on the right side on the dirverside I have a better view on the mirror than I do on the passenger side so that is not as big an issue.

Good points about the lights interfering with vision.  Also I now realize that it could interfer with closing the shades in that location.  I will keep looking and thinking.

We looked at a lot of other options for replacing the Javalina system on our coach at the same time we re located the TV (so we looked at a lot of different configurations.  We ended up deciding to go back with a flush mounted color monitor in the same location as OE: http://foreforums.com/index.php?topic=9888.0
