An oldie but very goodie

If you have experience selling an older Foretravel I am open to your thoughts on the best venue to do this. My husband passed away nine months ago and our 1993 U300 needs a new owner.  I realize it is not worth very much but as we made $30,000, worth of upgrades before he died I think it is worth at least $45,000. I hesitate to consigned it because this means it will sit outside and the new paint job might not look so new, plus the fact that I live in Colorado, and no one knows or appreciates the Foretravel name. Obviously I have looked into internet sites but because I have had a car advertised on one of those sites for over a year with nary a call, I hate to pay them money to list it because as far as I am concerned the money for the listing is all they are looking for and they have no interest in actually selling it.  Suggestions please!

The below link will give you an idea on price.  You are definitely in the ball park especially with many upgrades.  Call MOT (Motorhomes of Texas).  They have a web site to get contact info and they take consignments as well.

I Buy and Sell on "E-Bay"  8) - Only sell within the USA and have a face to face meeting with the buyer to exchange "Cash" for "Title"  if you accept a certified or cashers check  >:D make sure it clears your bank before releasing the vehicle. If you need help listing consult with one of your children or grandchildren.  ???  There are also services in your community that will list your item on E-bay for a fee...  :P

Thank you for your replies.  I have tried Ebay but the bids I got were way low, well actually I got no bids (reserve never met), some one did contact me after the bidding was over to offer $20,000!  I only had it on for two weeks so I probably could have had it on longer.  I could do Craig's list actually I know someone who just purchased one that was listed there, but I am wary of people I might get using it!

I suggest that you contact David Robertson directly at Motorhomes of Texas. David is a very fair person and would help you maximize the return on your coach, while minimizing the hassle.  He would send an experienced driver to pick up the coach, (probably his father), bring it to his lot, which has a lot of Foretravel traffic, and sell it for the best dollar with a fair commission.  Most importantly, I do not believe he would take advantage of you in your situation.
 
There is a real market for these outstanding older Foretravels, but usually the good ones sell and the not so good ones sit.  Unfortunately, the modifications don't return anywhere near their cost on re-sale (I have sold two coaches that were upgraded nicely, and have the scars to prove it.  They will sell quickly at a reasonable premium to the competition.  David can give you an idea of the real retail value for your coach, based on a description and pictures, and once he gets it to his lot, he can very accurately price the coach to sell.  The only coaches that don't sell in 90 days or less on his lot are the ones that owners are asking prices the market just will not support, and they will not or can not listen to reason.

I agree with Tim.  He has given you some very good advice.

I am waiting for a reply MOT David Robertson, but I did contact them once before and I would have to be in the "desperate ... have to sell mode". I will wait and see. Anyways, I am set up to learn to drive it this weekend and hope it looks as good when I get back as it does now. :))

Please call Paul Tinkle at Foretravel of Texas also and discuss your situation, then compare what you learn with that from David.
