Dash A/C , dash heat blower motor

I had one of these conk out on me when I first purchased my Foretravel. Bought a new one from FOT (Made in China) and it worked for about maybe 80 hours of use and it died yesterday as I took the rig for a spin. I had saved the old one so I hooked it up to a battery and to my surprise it worked but was intermittant. I felt I could do no harm to rip the "new" one apart. I drilled out the 4 rivets holding the 2 cases together and discovered that one of the brushes had stuck in it's guide. A piece of the insulating board had wedged under the brush. I cleaned up the rotor and reassembled the unit, hooked it up and it is like new. The blower is fairly easy to get to. I also disassembled the old motor and found a wire broken to one of the brushes and I could see some arcing that probably occured during it's intermittant operation. The local hardware store had a new brush that fit and now I have a reliable spare. As it turns out these motors are quite common and are available just about automotive store.

I liken this repair to the experiences of others with the hydraulic fan motors. A repair is probably a simple and inexpensive event in the hands of a knowledgeable and experienced technician.

Rick, These blower motors are common as dirt, any auto parts store should have one.  It normally will fit in any 90's Chev or GMC pickup or large GM car.

Jon, On the GV types the blower motor is behind the main wiring panel in front of the co drivers seat.  Remove  the upholstered panel, Remove the screws holding the wiring panel in and you can then pull  the panel out enough to reach the blower, you will probably leave some meat on the sharp edges and screws.  :)

Jon,
In front of the passenger seat there is a large finishing panel that has the heater vents in the upper portion. Grab that at the bottom of the panel and pull on the bottom only. The bottom will tilt out once you overcome the cabinet type catches that hold the bottom of the panel. Allow the panel to drop a little and it will be free. The heater vents are attached and if you want full access to the blower you will have to cut the ty-wraps that hold the vent hoses on. This exposes the DC distribution panel. remove the DC dist panel with 4 square head screws on the bottom and 3 at the top. Once those screws are out the whole DC panel will pivot/hinge on the wiring harness on the left.
