clay based grease NLGI-1

Hi Group,

I want to buy a cartridge of this grease for the brake calipers.  It's kind of hard to find. Anyone know where to order it?

I have used Mobil 28. It is fairly widely used in aircraft industry. Meets Meritor specs.  I got cartridges from Sky Geek.

I used the airplane synthetic grease and replaced the standard with it. One of our members in the mid atlantic got a case and split it up for us so it was cheaper.

Barry,

The Amsoil offering says lithium and no mention of being clay based??

I'm getting confused withall the synthetics offered.

If I am reading the specs correctly, NLGI 1 is clay based & NLGI 2 is Synthetic Oil, Clay Base

Barry,

I'm not sure this is helpful, but at least interesting.

I think NLGI 1 and 2 are both greases. Clay base appears to be a separate category beneficial for our caliper use.

For what it is worth.  When you buy replacement pads or rotors from Meirtor, they include a small single-use tube of this grease.

Bill and Barry,

I called Ryder Fleet Products and they have no product for sale under Meritor A1779W283.  However I did find the product in 14.5 oz cartridges at Six States Distributors for $18.75 plus shipping.
http://www.sixstates.com/products/partdetails.jsp?part=A1779W283&supplier=RO at (800) 547-7024 in Portland, OR.  I confirmed that this is clay based by calling the Rochwell/Meritor tech line at 888-725-9355.

Find-it-parts had it for sale
http://www.finditparts.com/products/meritor-a-1779-w-283 but it is sold only in case lots of 10 tubes or greater. They told me they cannot sell it in single tubes.

There probably are numerous other places selling it, but they are hard to find.

Thanks for your help.
