Power Tech Education

Unusual event, took FT out for a short run Sunday, to exercise everything and put the rust back under oil again.
Started Genset, while I was at Wally World, as soon as I stepped out, the genset quit.  whoa,  it run out of fuel, the electric pulse pump was not pulsing/pumping, so checked for the 12VDC to it, and yes there was the proper voltage.  This indicates the pump either is pumped up or it is not working, opened the bleeder, no fuel and no pressure.
SO forget Wally stuff, back to shop and next day I got into it. Everything worked perfect, Smells like a erratic pump don't it.
Today I installed a Facet pump 5.8-8 psi, all works great.
Point is; I no longer trust the erratic fuel pump, so it might become a temp spare.
Maybe this gives someone an idea if they have this situation.

Hmmm... keep us posted.  Our PowerTech 10KW was acting a little fuel-starved on the return portion of our summer trip.  Cranky starting, stalled a time or two when the load was first applied, acted up once even after running fine for hours.  We have new fuel filter and air filter on our "to do" list to see if that helps matters.

Dave, do you have the part number of your chosen gen fuel lift pump?
Facet has many different ones.
 
This week, we were hearing multiple hesitations of pump sounds while preheating our Isuzu 7,000 watt Power Tech generator.
 
Found with a meter on the glow plugs that the voltage was not steady while holding down the preheat switch.  The middle auto-type plug-in relay that closes to send current to the glow plugs and fuel pump, had pitted points. Cleaned up points and it worked, but found I had a new relay in my spare parts to use, so the cleaned up relay is now in my spare parts.  There are 3 relays in our generator control box and they are all the common plug in cube relays found in auto stores or Radio Shack.

The Facet # 476459E  This is the good pump, not a cheap china type, it is costly, but will be the last pump you will ever buy.

These pumps are the round barrel type with a removable end that contains a filter, it should never need any attention due to the filter ahead if it under coach. It also fits the existing bolt pattern of old pump, hoses reach etc.

Been using them on Onan generators for many years with never a failure.
Yes there are different models, all look the same, have to go by the model number.
12V, 5.8 - 8 psi

Can also provide the Onan/Cummins number for same, guess it would be cheaper thru NAPA or other parts outlet.
They show NAPA as a source.
 I got mine off an old genset sitting in back of shop.

Relay, Take a sample by the local Ford dealer, I get mine there cheaper and good quality.

$76 is not too much for the pump.
 
Dave, I don't know how a 'solid state' pump works.  Does it make similar audible pulsing sounds like a 'regular' lift pump, so we can hear it running from inside our coach?

That looks like the critter,  I hope the listed spec is a typo where it claims the pressure is 1-8 , Facet spec shows this number as 5.8 - 8 psi.

You might be able to hear it clicking during the preheat cycle from inside the coach, if you have super hearing and there is  no other noise.  For me, I have to open the  front and listen close after I check the oil etc.

I do like the price, NAPA has it for $208.00, cost $156.00.  not an NAPA fan on everything.
Onan / Cummins shows it at $149.00 list.

These pumps have proven to be very dependable over my 40+ yr experience with Onan, they were Bendix named in the old days, Facet  took over about 15 yr ago.

This pump bolt into same bolt holes, all you need is  two 90 degree fittings for the fuel line.  no need for change in length of fuel line.

It just means they have solid state controls for the motor.
