Hehr Powerline model 25-15

This is my second coach with one of these 190 amp models. Hopefully I can find a local rebuilder. Brushes are fine. I think the regulator is just whacked. All it has is positive, negative and a sensing wire.

Dave,

This should help:  http://www.hehr-international.com/distlist.htm

Were you down in this area, I could recommend Pearland Alternator.

Post mortum - Diodes were good, regulator and bearings were bad. Regulator was draining the chassis bank. Rebuild took 1.5 days and cost $213.00 incl tax. New regulator is adjustable with an IBS (itty bitty screwdriver).

Man is it sensitive! Finally got the output to 14.35V on high idle which was 13.8 to the chassis bank. Idle is 13.0 to 13.2.

Good news, Dave,
It all makes good sense, BUT, be very careful.  Many years ago, FT Escondido sent my Leece Neville Alternator out for rebuild, and the local rebuild shop put a very sensitive, adjustable regulator in my alternator.  I had to readjust it several times to prevent battery damage (Chassis battery Positive terminal would jump from the 14.0 Vdc, where I set it, to 14.4 - 14.8 Vdc or more).  I had the alternator reworked when I got back to NH.  There was a commonly available replacement regulator with a ten-turn potentiometer which has been rock steady ever since.
