Toilet Stool problem,,,,,,Need advice.

This new to us 2003, 40' U320 that we purchased from MOT has a Thetford Aria Classic, Aria DeluxII toilet that is dealing us a FIT!!

While we were at a Rally in Kansas and were away from the Coach attending a Seminar, someone came running up to us saying that there was WATER leaking from our Rig! We ran to it and found this STOOL flushing automatically over and over real fast and of course it filled the tank and was running over... I shut off the water, pulled the tank dump and raised the front of the Coach. It hadn't gotten to the carpet yet and we finally got all the water out with a borrowed a water Vac and several fans and let them run for hours and hours. I believe we got it all dried out... It was no small ordeal!!

We got by without a toilet for a few days as we were parked right next to the rest rooms at the rally and we were headed for MOT. We called Mike R. at Mot and he told us that they had the parts and would fix it for us as soon as we could get there....

When we got there MOT replaced the "Control Module" and it worked fine... That was Monday,,,,,now here it is Friday and we are 170 miles from MOT and during the night,,,out of the clear blue,,,it started doing the same thing...Flushing and Flushing real fast and would not stop. We pressed the buttons and it kept flushing. I finally pulled the fuse to stop it.... We went back to bed and left the fuse out of it...

Now this morning when we get up I put the fuse back in and it seems to work fine again... We are afraid to use it and for sure don't trust it.....

Anyone have any experience with this toilet or had any experiences like this with it? Its a great stool otherwise and we love the way it flushes and works,,,when its working... !! That little Module MOT replaced was about $75.00 plus labor to replace... As soon as it gets to be 8:00am we are going to call Mike R. at Mot and let him know what has happened and see what he suggests.. Any Idea's?

Mke,

Here is my advice. Get rid of that damn toilet and install a SeaLand. We did a year ago and all of the problems went away.

Fortunately we haven't had water problems like this, but as a general practice we try to remember to shut water/pump off when we leave our
Foretravel.

I feel your pain. Dealing with a similar situation ... different toilet ... different cause. Still stinks. Sigh.

Thanks Carol for that info and the PM. Wow, you are having some kind of problems too!! I understand you have a "Sealand Microphor" toilet,,,,right? Hope things get better for you.... Looks like we may go the 175 miles back to Nac and have MOT re-do this Thetford Aria toilet again...... It's tough traveling without a TERLET!!!! :-)

I usually turn the water off if I'm gona be gone for a while. I never have when I was just across the street for an hour. Never had a problem in 15 years. But I guess I will turn it off every time I turn around from now on....

Sorry, I would get the toilet fixed, replace the toilet, or replace the coach before I would consider shutting off the water whenever I left my coach. What about the propane system? What about the Aqua-Hot? Just my opinion.

@Mike ... We have a Microphor that is now working just fine. The toilet was not our issue, really, just the broken tank monitors and everyone involved thinking that someone else had emptied the tanks! The aftermath of a problem like that is something else! I am using a combination of Dawn w/ a splash of Clorox to scrub scrub scrub ... an enzymatic odor killing liquid to treat the grout, base of wood cabinets where the toxic liquid may have penetrated and (as suggested by David Flanagan) a combination of applications of baking soda or plain charcoal to absorb odors. You can take plain charcoal for grilling purposes, break it up with a hammer and put it in a small tray. Also recommended are the charcoal packets used for aquariums ... cutting a slit in the packets to open them, and placing them in the bottom of cabinets or drawers in the bathroom to absorb odors. I think it will be a "work in progress" for some time. Live and learn ........ live and learn!!

We had the same problem with a microphor. Now we are at MOT having our rig recarpeted due to the water and having a Sealand toilet instaleed John

I have a microphor and I had an issue with it too. It would flush but not put water in. MOG changed out the water valve and it is working butI am thinking a manual uni might be easier and a change is on the horizon.

Almost a year ago I decided to remove the troublesome Microphor and replaced it with a SeaLand. Our toilet has a real china bowl and works flawlessly every time.

This unit I have is NOT a Microphor,,,,,,,,,,,,,,It is a "Thetford Aria Classic ll"...........I have a 2003 U320 and it is obvisouly the original stool. Does ANYONE else have this unit? If so have you had "any" issues with it..?

Mike, what I think we are all saying is that both styles of electric toliet are issues. One of my next upgrades is to replace mine with a manual one like my 270 had. If you are having issues with yours that is what I would do. I was at FOT a few years ago and one guy who worked at FT was in the lot in a coach and he had issues so they pulled another coach up for the weekend for him to use just the bathroom. So, it has been an issue in the past and he had your model unit.

Guess I'll go on record here ..... FWIW. We've had "0" problems with our Microphor toilet. I maintain it according to the recommendations in the owner's manual and lube the seal and siphon-valve with silicon grease about once a month when we're on our trips. No problems what-so-ever. Maybe there's a totally maintenance-free unit out there, but in 4 coaches I've not seen it yet.

We too have had few issues with our Microphor toilet. Main problem was losing water from the bowl; which we fixed with silicone grease on the seal and the opening edge. As for our gauges, we have been fortunate to have 3 of four (knock on walnut) working. . .black tank, fresh water and propane. The gray water tank shows 1/4 full when empty. If one doesn't have the luxury of a working black tank gauge, as in our late Airstream, aside of trying to keep a mental (?) track of dump time, a sure sign would be when the toilet would "burp" when flushed because of the tank's fluid level just covering the bottom of the vent tube that goes up to the roof. THAT'S A SURE SIGN IT'S TIME TO DUMP!!!

Mike, We have the same unit (Aria Deluxe Model 19694) and had the same problem; the toilet would flush erratically and entirely on its own. I replaced the Control Assembly (Thetford #28968) for $150. The new Control combines the flush control switch and the control unit instead of having the switch separate. I replaced it in June of this year and have not had any more problems.
I also replaced the Vacuum Breaker Kit at the same time and that solved a nagging intermittent leak problem.
We are going to try to remember to turn the water off when we leave. Can someone explain what happens with the ice maker when you turn off the water supply without turning the ice maker off?

When you turn off the water you still have plenty of pressure to keep the ice maker going..Unless you have a leak or gone for a number of days.

A couple of points. I have read that a reason for using an electric toilet is to allow the manufacturer to place the toilet somewhere other than directly over the black tank. Sooo, be sure that your toilet is directly over the black tank before ordering a gravity feed toilet.

Point two, I recently replaced the Thetford Aqua Magic toilet in my U225 with a Style Plus porcelain toilet for under $200. Since both were Thetford, the job of replacing the old one with the new one was a piece of cake, less than 1 hour. The Thetford Style Plus is the best flushing, gravity feed RV toilet I have seen. We are thinking of getting one for our "New 2 Us" U300.

Thanks to everyone for their help and experience............We will decide which way to go..... Its a lovely Toilet, but if it don't work, its not so LOVELY!!
