With over 6500 Foretravels
6500 foretravels sounds higher than the total build numbers.  I was talking to Greg Amy's this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway and the number he was using as still on the road was approximately 2000.  Not sure which number is right, what is the origin of 6500?

Aren't they showing 2010 coaches with build numbers of 65xx for sale?  If the numbers are sequential, starting with #1, that would be 6500.

Or are there gaps in the build number scheme?

That is correct, around 6500.
Should not be any gaps in the numbers.

Let's see.  If the average new selling price of all of those 6500 coaches was just $200,000 -- that is a tidy little sum.

The 2010 September 27th issue of Motorcader shows a picture of a Nimbus build number 6534 and that is where I got the "6500 Foretravel motorhomes" from.

Other statistics:
With 27 years from 1970 to 1996 and with 4943 motorhomes built by 1996 (my 1996 U320 is build number 4943), Foretravel was building about  180 motorhomes per year on average. From 1996 to 2010 this average builds per year dropped to circa 100, which makes sense because there were only about 20 Foretravels built in the last year.

Tim, you wrote in a previous post that Greg Amys indicated there were only 2000 Foretravel motorhomes on the road today. What happened to the 4500 Foretravels which are not on the road anymore? Does anyone know if 2000 Foretravel motorhomes on the road today is accurate?

That is a good question. ::)
2000 seems extremely low.
How would even Foretravel know how many are on the road.
They do not know about all the private sales or know when a coach is not registered.
Although if there is a recall they seem to know who to notify.
Registrations are by State & I dont think there is a national count.
I dont know who would have such a database to know for sure.  :( ::)

Well in the strong days like the end of the 90s (98 and 99) they made a bit over 300 coaches.  The later years from 2004 on they have not made anywhere near that many. Heck in 05 who knows how few they made but not many and last year they were under or around 30 coaches. The highest the new owners got to was in the 70s so you have a lot of years covered with not too many units and then we lost them to accidents and disuse and even fire.
