Found A Gap under the slide room --UPDATED

With the slide room deployed.

I was looking in the storage space under our sofa and saw daylight coming from the lower SW corner of the slide out room.  Oh crap! I thought.  This is not good.

Fortunately, I am at Gary Omel's place in Readyville, TN and he figured out what is it. The gap  is a by-product of the manufacturing process, and if you have a  1999, 2000, maybe a 2001 with a slide out, you probably have the same gap

You can find the gap easily by looking in the rectangular openings in the bottom of the slideout room close to either end.  (See pictures)

I have added a photo to show the small triangle shaped area that is now filled with yellow foam.

I bought a can of Great Stuff Expanding Foam.  The blue label can does not expand as much as the red label.  If you need to fill the gap, I highly recommend this product.  I very carefully filled the gaps in both ends with a minimal amount of foam.  Tomorrow when the foam has cured I will cut away any foam that might interfere with the operation of the slide.

Too bad I did not discover this gap earlier.  It would be a slam dunk, 3-minute fix for your bro's coach at Xtreme.  Now Dave is going to fret about it.

George, I do not think I would fill that. I have them too. They are used to access the slide room stuff from the outside.  You can also see and install the shims from there.  I have not had an issue with them so far.  Your slide room is s scissor type of movement and it takes a bit of room to operate.

Hi John,

In the unlikely event that shims need to be added at some point down the road, then the foam will just have to be removed.  It is only a small amount of foam.  We would much rather not have another wolf spider in the coach or any other creepy, crawly things.

There is no movement of anything where I put the foam. Gary Omel has worked at the factory, has done extensive maintenance on his coach.  Gary also foamed his 2000 U320 today at the same time.  If there was a potential problem he would have known of it.

I am positive we are in good shape here

But your information is good and will help others decide if they want to do anything.
