Remote Start Panel

I have been walking around all smug because my motorhome has a remote start panel.  I feel so "technical" or something.

Isn't the remote start panel REALLY there so the bare chassis can be driven around the plant before the body and dash are installed?

AND, It is also there so that you can start and stop it while you are working on it without having to walk to the drivers position each time you want to start.  It may vary from coach to coach but on mine if You start from the rear you have to shut it down from there as it will not shut down from the front.

The remote start panel also enables a mechanic to start the engine without having to get inside the coach.

I used the remote start panel yesterday to assist in installing a new belt. That's the first time I have really used it but boy was it handy yesterday.

I do not remember seeing such an item on my '91 GV on an Oshkosh chassis.  Have I overlooked it?

On our 1994, it is located at 12:00 in the engine bay, close to the bay door frame.  It is covered by a black sheet of plastic.  Lifting the plastic flap reveals an hour meter, the air cleaner condition indicator, an on/off button, and a momentary push switch for starting.  With the plastic cover, it would be easy to overlook, assuming it to be a wiring block or etc.

Not on the Unihome, because it is Foretravel's own monocoque unitized body without chassis frame rails.  It has no bare chassis!  And even if it had one, you still need the key installed and turned on in the ignition switch on the dash for the remote to work  If you want to know more about monocoque, read the following link:  http://www.rversonline.org/ArtFAQ4.html .  Really tells something about Foretravel Unihome and Unicoach and how well built they are.
