Direct TV East & West coast network channels

We have been getting the major networks from La and New York from Direct TV for almost ten years now as fulltimmers. We noticed that our east coast channels were turned off.

The Direct TV customer service operator told us that the FCC requires them to only offer east or west coast channels but not both.

Does anyone have any input on this?

I vaguely recalled reading about this on Escapees.  Here's some info from last October

Escapees Discussion Forum (Powered by Invision Power Board)

It looks like there was a postcard that needed to be returned in order to maintain both feeds.  And it sounds like not everyone got it  :(  The discussion continues as recently as last week, so perhaps it's just a matter of trying again until you get a CSR who can help.

I did get the postcard and did mail it in last November.  I lost my west coast feed briefly and called Cust. Service.  Amazingly, I got a human on the first ring, gave her my acct number, she looked it up and my feeds were restored in minutes.  No problem.  I used to get both for around $15.00 a month.  If you returned the post card, you could be grandfathered in to continue both for $20.00 or just keep one for $15.00.  I think I would tell them that you sent in the post card ... she didn't really ask for much in the way of documentation.

RJFowles,
You may have missed the big discussion on DirecTV Distant Local Networks a few months ago on Nov 9 2010.

The law that requires/allows/authorizes DirecTV to provide service to RVs and trucks specifically excludes boats.

If you tell DirecTV that your 'Service Address' is New York, NY and that you want the local channels you will get the network stations from NY everywhere (at least in the states). I suspect a 'Service Address' in LA will work as well for LA network stations.
There was a time when we changed our SA about twice a year to pickup local channels until we 'moved' to NY. (At 9 mph it takes a while to get out from under the spot beams).

There is no additional $15/mon
