Air Dryer Internals

I just replaced my OEM Bendix air dryer with a new Bendix AD-9. I was interested in seeing what the desiccant filter looked like inside so I started to disassemble it. Anyhow, the cylinder has a warning that it should not be disassembled in that it is under heavy spring pressure. Anyone taken one of these things apart? Thanks.

Late last year Russ Lantier described his experience with replacing his Haldex air dryer as being really messy. I think his desiccant became saturated and turned to mush.

I don't know if Haldex is spring-loaded, but I'd sure pay attention to the Bendix warming label.

Thanks, guys. I read the referenced document, Dave. Great info. It seems that the desiccant filter is a unit not meant to be disassembled so as George suggests, I'll leave it alone. Tempting though... so maybe I'll change my mind. Anyhow, the new one works as advertised so all is well.
