Air Dryer

93 U-225

I just pulled the air dryer on my 225. From the looks of it, it may even be the original. The Bendix number (103388) isn't valid anymore and I'm wondering which AD unit to buy. Brett mentioned that a lot of us replace this stock unit  with the more expensive AD-IP but I think I'll stick with the original as I'm in a very dry climate. Anyhow, I can't determine from looking at it if mine is an AD-2 or and AD-9 or what? Which one should I buy as a replacement? Here's a photo of the unit in the coach and one with it partially cleaned and out. The engineer that figured out where to mount this baby must have been having a real bad day! Thanks. Now that you have it out and cleaned up, you could: 1. rebuild it, 2. exchange it for a rebuilt unit.  It probably needs a new filter and both rebuild kits.  Not too difficult if you are mechanically inclined.

I got a new AD-9 from these people for what parts to rebulid would have cost. Easy installation (but Heavy)

Jerry, I think I'll just replace it as Bill suggests. So the AD-9 is a direct replacement then? I'm hoping I can simply swap them out without modifying any of the hoses.

I replaced with no trouble and everything lined up just great.
AS you already know, it is a heavy rascal I bult a wood stand to fit my floor jack to hole it in place while I tightened the mounts.

Good idea. I just took out my generator too and I was thinking about something similar to line it up with the sliders when I put it back in. Those AD-9s sure to vary in price. The place you mentioned looks good at $264. Found a reman for over $300 and they are all over the board on ebay and Amazon. I think I'll go with a new one from your place. Thanks.

Part of the price delta is whether it is a BENDIX FACTORY reman or a reman using off brand parts.

With something as important as your air/air brake system, I suggest Bendix factory new or factory reman ONLY.

Same goes for overhaul kits-- factory not overseas off brand.

I recently replaced an AD2 with an AD9.  Some of the hose connections were in different locations, but in my case, everything attached with some thought and wishing.  The electrical connection is different, but it is easily replaced.

I recently had my dryer serviced, new filter etc, at MOT for under $200.

I'm buying the factory Bendix that Bill recommends. I suspect that my dryer is the original and has not been serviced for many years. At Brett's suggestion, I checked both air tanks and both are dry. I was relieved at that after seeing how much oily residue had collected around the purge port. The photo I posted above of the cleaned dryer shows the accumulation after only seven or eight hundred miles. Thanks to all.
