Kubota issue

First, let me say I fixed the problem.  What I don't know is why is happened.  Should I be concerned?

Here is the sequence:

We ran the generator for about six hours.

Stopped for diesel.  Only needed 17 gallons.

Drove 25 miles to RV park and stopped at propane station.

While standing outside the coach during propane filling I heard generator shut down.

As soon as I could I consulted the archives and found a post from Barry Beam
where he said to clear the red fault light you have to clear it out by turning the  Master On/Off toggle switch to off.  Light went out and we started the generator with no problem. 

My guess is just an anomaly as I am current on GenSet service.

I'm pretty sure that you should not be running your gen-set when you are fueling, whether it is diesel, propans, or gas.

HI Mike,

I will be sure not to do that again -- from a safety standpoint.  I'm trying to figure out what would be wrong with running the Gen-set while taking on diesel fuel.

George.... Diesel fuel is flammable.... not like propane or gasoline, but still flammable.  What if the hose fell out of your tank while fueling and you had a significant fuel spill where the fumes from the diesel were much more of a factor.  Could there be a fire from the generator?  Probably not, but still, not worth chancing it.  Keep in mind too others filling their gasoline tanks near your motor home.  Good idea to turn everything off while fueling.... with any fuel.

Best practice is to shut all systems & appliances down while refueling.  This includes the refrigerator propane system, if so equiped.  And George, you're right to be concerned about the genny shutting down by itself.  It could take quite a bit to diagnose this issue.  I would just keep an eye on things to be sure I paid attention to all conditions while running the generator.
 
If your fuel delivery system is sound, the issue may have been a fluke.  Otherwise, I would begin to pay close attention to the fuel delivery system.

Agreed.
I never let go of the hose nozzle while fueling. The first time I fueled I was having difficulty and spoke to a big burly truck driver who was really helpful. He told me that he has seen nozzles jump or fall out and send fuel everywhere. Since that advice, we fuel with hands on.  But, I plan to turn engines off.

George, Maybe I missed some point here, but if the genset shut down with no faults, just maybe the charging system had enough and it timed out and just did what it was susposed to do ??
Just what did you fix to solve the non issue?
For me I would not get my innerds an uproar just yet, have a beer and get some sleep.

Red fault light on dash was on.  But until it happens again I ain't sweating it.

I missed the Red Lite part on first posting, sorry.  My guess would be an over temp condition, meaning, I would chech level at radiator in side compartment under driver seat. I had the exact same issue once, so just maybe you could also have similar issue  ;D
Also check the over flow bottle after the radiator is full (100%), run until the engine is putting hot water to radiator and shut down, recheck antifreeze level in radiator as the engine may be a little low too.
Do not forget to check all the hose clamps for snug.

Our Powertech/Kubota generator abruptly shut down once while parked in our driveway in preparation to travel. I found the radiator fan switch in the OFF position. I don't know how, why, when the switch moved to the OFF position. I turned the switch ON, waited a few minutes, then started the generator. Since then, all has been copacetic with respect to the generator.

Coolant level is fine.  My desk jockey life is catching up with me.  Next time I will see if a diagnostic light is illuminated.  Did not know enough to check that out yesterday.  I'm betting on a fluke occurrence.

Forgot to mention, also check fan belt  ;D and electric motor on radiator.
