Fuel Filter Change - 400 ISL (2002 U270)

Hi All:
I stumbled back to the fold again.  Getting ready to travel summers in the U270.  No reasonably priced service is available here for a simple LOF, so I am undertaking it on my own for the first time.  While the lube and oil change is easily understood, not so much text is dedicated to the fuel filter system in the FT manual.

I have the two Fuel replacement filters and have read the "don't fill them" admonition in the FT manual.  While I can spot the primary filter near the batteries, and its button above that I assume must be the manual air purge, I am unsure about the secondary filter.  It looks like it is the one buried in the engine components on the curbside of the engine.  The question:

I'll assume it logical that I should change the primary filter 1st...but should I also change the secondary at the same time (or one at a time) and THEN attempt to purge the air at the primary?  Or is there another air purge at the secondary?  I read a story online of someone having enormous difficulty purging air from a fuel line, hence my caution.

I am likely just being overly cautious, but are there any special precautions I should be taking?

It's OK to change both filters at the same time.  Find the Shraeder valve (looks like a tire valve) on the primary assembly.  Depress it, then push the prime button.  When fuel starts to come out the valve, release to valve and stop pushing the button.  Start the engine and run at fast idle until it smooths out.  Easy.

That must be the 450 setup, Brett.  I don't have an air valve...only a manual button on the filter mount itself on my 400ISL. 

I seem to be at a stop, however, as FilterBarn sent me the wrong Primary Fuel Filter anyway.  I am thinking something might be amiss in their cross-reference listing, as I asked for the equivalent of my current NAPA 3411 filter...and they sent me a very DIRTY, unsealed WIX 33231 filter.  It was unwrapped, had dirt on the filter, no rubber seal included (pictured on the internet as standard on the WIX filter), and is clearly designed to have a bowl on the bottom...nothing like the NAPA 3411 which only has a drain on it and nothing else.  The box was even dirty and had the top taped on where someone tried to open it on the wrong side.

I've sent them an email and hope that they'll send me a proper replacement soon.  I think they have a good reputation here, right?  At least the secondary fuel filter is the right one, as were the oil and coolant filters.  That secondary one looks like a real bear to get changed, tho!

Update:  Filter barn responded immediately to the error and said they have a lot of trouble with that particular filter, as it comes in many, many ways (with bowl, open filter without bowl, no bowl at all on filter, a sensor port, no sensor port at all...and many different combinations of all those options).  They also apologized for their error and said they would ship me the correct filter this morning.  Can't ask for better service than that!
