Tire Air Valve extensions

Had a bad air valve extension.  It would let me measure air pressure, but would not allow air into the tire >:D.  Anyway I just pulled them off so I could measure and order new ones.  The old extensions are made by Ventrex from Austria.  Are 6 and a 1/8" long.  Could not find a supplier for them so I ordered two each Alcoa 6" extensions and stabilzers along with 6 double seal valve cap seals .  Talked to Alcoa and found out that they no longer make my wheels.  They could not even find the wheel model number on record to tell me which extensions I needed.  Hope I don't hit something hard enough to crack it.  Can't even find a match with Accuride wheels.  Thinking I better find a couple used wheels to hide in the garage. 

I did check out Ventrex's web page - VENTREX Automotive GmbH.  Very impressive, but they don't seem to want anyone know how to do business with them, or to know who their distributors are.

I thought this was going to be simple.  I measured the old valve stem extensions and they were, overall, 6 and 1/8 inches long. Told the Alcoa dealer that how long my old ones were and I needed the same in new ones. Got the new ones today and they are 7 and 1/8 inches long :o??? Tried them on the dual wheels and they stick way out to far :o :o. Now I am waiting for their customer service to call me back. They must take Friday afternoon off, as I can only get a recording >:D >:D!! I am under the conclusion now that when you measure a valve stem extension, that you do not measure the collar, but I told her specifically the words, "overall length". You would think I would have gotten the right size......

It is my understanding from Alcoa that valve stems, particularly shorter ones are not available for the 6.75" wheels.

If you find new ones PLEASE let us know-- the long ones on the outer rear wheels will not accommodate pressure sensors.

I know one thing for sure about those 22.5, 6.75", 6 bolt wheels.  When I find some I am going to buy them and hide them in the barn for a rainy day!!!

Brett,
Alcoa sent me to Haltec.  Haltec is who you get when you call the Alcoa's "To purchase products
call 800-434-7202" number .  It appears Haltec makes the extensions for Alcoa and their own marketing.  HALTEC ONLINE.  Once on their site click on catalog tab, but do not open the whole catalog.  scroll down and click on page "Standard Bore valve extensions and stabilizers, Page 32".  Their regular valves are on the surrounding pages.

Right now I am waiting for Alcoa Tech Service to call me back so we can discuss the specific details about valve extensions and the specific Alcoa wheel (part # 863103, 22.5, 6.75", 6 bolt wheels).  Only us with older coaches have these wheels.  Before I ordered, I was told I needed this info, but later told that Alcoa has no info on their wheels with that part number, and just to just order a extension similiar to the one on the wheels.  Been waiting since Friday for Haltec Customer Service to call me back.  I really wonder about customer and tech service these days, but we will get to the bottom of this somehow.  Will pass this info on once I find something.

UPDATE:  Was told 4" to 5" overall extension length.  But they have nothing on that actual wheel model number.  Are going by the size that I gave them off mine, 22.5, 6.75",
15 0 DC, 6 bolt.  Was also told the valve stem for the wheel is a TR511.

Are these Hub Piloted or Stud?

Stud piloted holes are beveled(countersunk) and the nuts are cone shaped,hub piloted are not countersunk and the nuts have a flat washer attached to the nut. Reminder I have a stud pilot spare for sale, look in the classified listed with a muffler.

Looked and could not find it?  But is it 6 bolt, 22.5 6.75?  Oh, I know the difference between the hub piloted and stud, but without pulling mine partly apart, don't know what I have.

It is fairly simple to tell difference between Hub Pilot and Stud Pilot.
Hub Pilot is the newer method, the nut has a washer attached and on drive axle, only one nut, where the Stud Pilot on drive uses the two nut type on the drive, the inner holds the inside wheel, and the nut holds the outside wheel. either way, the Stud Pilot has the tapered nut like old cars etc.  The Stud Pilot is also the first after the spoke and clamp method about 60+ ears ago.

four to many bolt holes.  The U225 only has a 6 bolt, 22.5, wheel.

Got a call from Haltec today.  They are sending me the proper size right out, no charge and don't bother sending the old ones back.  Confusion was that their measurements do not include the 1 inch collar, so a catalog described 5 inch "effective length", long collar type 1 inch (or short collar type 3/8"),  extension is actually a full 6 inches long.  My best guess is that the 5 inch extension with short collar would only be 5 and 3/8" long.  Some how that does not work in my mind when I told them the overall length of the extensions I was replacing.  But they are taking care of the issue properly in my mind.  So I certainly would shop with them again.  'At least now that I know how to work around the confusion. ::)
