Ya big lug...

...I've lost two of the plastic lug nut covers for the wheels on my '98 U270 on our last trip.  I've checked the archives but I can't find a source for replacements.  Can anyone help?

Thanks,

BiscuitBoy

We've bought ours at the factory.  We started with about a dozen or so and have probably used half (Arkansas is a killer  ::) ).  We do "thump" them before each trip to make sure they are as snug as possible, but they do loosen on rough roads.

Someone STOLE one of my rear hubcap sets.  All lugnuts, all plastic bases, and the center rear hubcap were missing one morning.  Pretty hard for all of that to come off at once.  Anyway, does anyone have a source for this?  I am sure it is gonna be painful to learn the price.

We get our lug nut covers from the local Kenworth truck shop. They have a pretty good chrome shop.

you might try Southwest wheels in Dallas. I think southwestwheels.com will get you there.

MOT has then in stock, it is where I purchase my replacements, also I do not buy the slip on type, only the threaded style, they stay on much better.

Hi Brad;
I got a dozen lug-nut covers from Alcoa; they listed the hub-cap too, thou I share your pessimism regards the likely cost.

I found some store in Oregon on my internet search last night that listed them at $95.02 for a rear wheel...and that was lower than I expected...and my technical "ept-ness" let me manage to lose the website address again.  I did see there is some new 1-piece replacement, but that just doesn't sound as secure.  Frankly, I was expecting $200 plus...

I bought some from this web site a year ago. I don't know how the price compares to others.

Hey Folks,
Almost any truck "Chrome Shop" should have Alcoa replacements by the piece as well by the set.
I'm fortunate to have a great shop nearby and can highly recommend them, including buying through the internet.      Berube's Truck Accessories, Big Truck Accessories
Look (online) at page 30 of their current catalog and you will find the OEM ALCOA (screw on) lug nut covers for $3.00 ea. and a complete rear set for $74.95.
Also on page 30, in answer to prior posts regarding easy access to hub oil level indicators, note that they also carry the ABS replacement HI HAT hubcovers that can be used for easy access for hub inspection.  I don't know how well they work, or how reliable the covers are.
The Berube family is great (they are motorhomers) and their organization has always been great in my dealings with them.
And Don Berube's '56 Pete restoration is a work of art.  Don "winters in Port Charlotte".  I last saw him at the Ft. Myers HD/Corvette Car Show, with his souped up 'Pete, this past February.
FWIW,
Neal

Brad,

Yikes.

Where did this happen and did they actually steal the lug nuts or just the chrome plastic covers?

Everything was missing.  The 10 black plastic mounting threads that go on the actual lugnuts, the 10 chrome covers and the large center hub.  I had made two very fast trips from Oregon to Lake Havasu City, AZ, almost back to back.  I don't know the last time I was positive they were both on, but I suspect the loss occurred at the Love's in Barstow, CA (Lenwood Road) which was the last sleep stop on the last trip...and I had been stopping at various Elks Clubs.  I can't imagine it happened here in Havasu...which is where I first noticed the loss.  I'm still not sure if it is the Alcoa 077155 or the 077188 set that I need.

Hey Brad,

Thanks for the answer.  Is there any possibility that there are some numbers molded into the remaining hub cap that would help you determine which one you need?

The mounting seems to be the difference.  I'll likely call Alcoa and ask, as they show both black and a tan plastic mount.  Mine are black.  They just use odd nomenclature in their catalog. I have a couple extra "nuts" so I'll likely learn from them which it is.
