What is it for??

Near the bottom of the door and the door frame are round magnets sticking out. When the door is closed they are supposedly in close proximity. What do they do or are supposed to do?
The clear assist handle next to the door has a light in the top that is on whenever the porchlight is on. Others coaches have an additional wire thru the wall that when the handle is touched the handle light comes on. Maybe the magnets were part of that option?? Or were the magnets tied to a power steps option?

Power door steps.  The control the opening and closing of the steps when you open the door.

I thought maybe so, but our "power" steps consist of one "fluffy" sixty-nine year old carrying out the platform and mat from the kitchen area when we are finally camped. I don't think power steps were an option on our 36' ORED GV as the two large batteries are under the lift-up stairs inside the door.
