A/C drier replacement-Dash

I have been doing the Muffler removal and replace with Resonator Mod' and have the side panel completely off right now (makes it easy to do change over) and I noticed that the cooling Rad' and Drier for a/c are very handy to service/replace. I cannot read the label on  Drier/Filter unit due to raod grime damaging it and wondered if anyone has replaced this (along with the Binary switch on it) and has a part #. It looks like it was made by Parker Hannifin but can only see 3520 on it. I think it may be prudent of me to replace now while I have access as my system is not working yet as it needs to be filled at least.
I am really pleased with the install of new pipe and Resonator and it sounds just a touch throatier than before. There is also a whole lot of extra room were the muffler was and I am scratching my head to figure out how to make a storage compartment. I would have to cut the panel for a door and make one to suit.

What's the advantage to a resonator vs a muffler?  Is it exhaust tone only?

well the removal of the restrictive muffler should make the engine breath easier and the resonator tones down a touch the straight thru effect, but with a diesel the turbo does to a great extent what the muffler does. I am following the changes made by many on this panel (see Barries web site for exhaust mods) but my first drive out today on some hills etc around here did not show a big change in exhaust temps, although it sure sounded nice. I have kept all the parts I took off from original so IF I have to revert back it is an easy one. I guess I should hook up my computer (VMS pc) to do a better check on things but my exhaust temp gauge for the Banks Stinger did not show any change- sadly so far. I will have to ask Dave M what he has found so far with his change over. The VMS pc will aslo show any MPG changes (hopefully)

John, thanks for the explanation, I'm really interested in seeing what your final analysis is and hope you post the results.  It does seem like anything that'll make her breathe easier would yield positive results.

One other thing I did notice that the old Muffler and pipes are in exceptional condition and almost like new, so I gather that the engine is running right. There was absolutely no carbon build up on the insides and none in the  "can" itself. I put that also down to the Banks Stinger creating a clean burn and the Amsoil Diesel additive I use every once in a while. I also drive it 3 months a year in Mexico with their high sulphur fuel, which should create soot, so it is interesting to say the least.

John,

The receiver/dryer does look like it's in bad shape (may not be) from the outside because of rust, but removing it will require dumping (illegal) or evacuating all the refrigerant, about 5 1/2 lbs in a full system.  And then of course it needs to be refilled.    Best to wait until there is a problem with the dash air.  There is usually a sight glass on the top of the rec/dryer, but you need a small mirror to see it.  Bubbles in the sight glass after it has been in operation for several minutes usually indicate that it is low on refrigerant.  I don't carry a spare as the generator and roof AC  provide a backup for dash air.  An auto parts store or air conditioning parts supply should be able to match the old one.
