IF interested in the ISM 500 Conversion

Today, had another long chat with my contact with the Cummins Factory shop guru.  Found 2 interesting tidbits of interest,

1-Any ISM/M11 1999 or before, forget upgrade, not recommended,  would be asking for trouble.

2-After 2000, the ISM450 should have the block stiffener/girdle if going to 500 hp, all the ISM500 have the girdle as standard.  But a complete reading / check of the engine number would be required.

For me I had the stiffener put in early, did not need it as the 450, but for the 500 HP it was.  so glad I had it done.
WIth my engine number and CPL number and stiffener,  it got the blessing of Cummins

Dave, would the resonator not be recommended for 99 back as part of the upgrade in HP? Would this require a stiffner if only res. is installed? jc

I do not think the resonator would be a game changer, surely not like the bigger turbo, and additional fuel etc settings.
For me the change to the resonator was a biggie, and recommend it to all,
If the smaller engines use the same 5" exhaust, the gain to a resonator would be very little value due to the smaller exhaust flow in ct ft / hr
I do not know what the smaller engines have for exhaust setup, maybe it is a 4", so yes a resonator would help that one too.
Some would not know the difference, but motor heads sure will see the large increase.
Any time you can get rid of the hot exhaust freely, you gain in turbo boost  =  more power.  All mufflers have restriction to air flow, have a higher temperature in the engine area etc etc..
