Central Texas Wildfires

Just checking to be sure everyone is safe after yesterday's wildfires in Bastrop county, Stiener Ranch, Spicewood, Pflugerville.  Horrible fires with over 400 homes lost in Bastrop alone.  From our front porch looking east towards Austin, the night sky was glowing the entire night.  Bastrop fire is 16 miles long and 6 miles wide and not even close to be contained. 

Today is another high fire danger as the wind is at about 20 mph with gusts to 40 and very very dry. 

The coach is fueled, watered, loaded with food for a quick exit with the dogs and cat!

We had several fires in East Texas as well.  This is really getting serious.
Local news last night was all they had time to talk about.  It is so dry and now the wind.
Electrial transformers are getting hot, blowing and starting fires. Pray for rain.
And does anyone know a rain dance?  Dan

As for us the fires have been all around. The smoke yesterday was really bad. There was ash raining out of the sky when the wind would lay. We have some camping friends that live between Gladewater and Sabine. They had to evacuate yesterday when the fires came within about a mile of there house. (just saw on F/B that there house hasn't burnt yet) They live just down the road from where there was a fire fatality.

Saw some footage of the devastation this morning. It's so sad to see people lose their homes. And no end in sight yet.

The US sure is getting hammered with disasters this year. One thing after another.

Steve:  We had 19 fires burning just in East Texas yesterday. You have to look over your shoulder where ever you go.  It is so dry I understand in Austin you can water your yard one day a week.  Here is three time rights now.  Lake Palestine is down over 5 ft, the lowest since the 40s. Rain is not in the forcast. The sky has clouds but they are smoke.

BIL in Austin can see and smell the smoke from the Bastrop fires. That area of Texas needs more than a foot of rain in the next month to get back to normal ... obviously, that will not happen. Terrible situation.

I just posted for Bev that the San Antonio Sensation is cancelled due to the wildfires.  She said Getting to San Antionio on I 10 is an issue because of smoke and even i fthe fire was contained their is still a smoke issue.  They did not want to put lives at risk.  Good call.... I hope that TX gets some rain soon.

If you are headed to Nacogdoches via hwy 21 from Alto be advised that the road is closed in that area due to a wild fire.  Not sure how long this will last may be back open tomorrow

At 3 PM the fire was just north of hwy 21, between Douglas and Linwood, moving south. It was expected to jump the road during the evening and continue south. Douglas is just 12 miles west of Nacogdoches. Things are grim in East Texas.

Hwy  21 between Nacogdoches and Alto is still closed due to wildfire.  If you are going to Nac ck this out before going this route.  Tks DAN
