Windshield Wiper Replacement



Coach is a 2003 U-270.

Strangely, we were at Buckhorn RV Resort in Kerrville for a few days, and there actually were clouds, real, wet, rain in San Antonio,  and a forecast of rain for the Hill Country.  This prompted me to take a serious look at my wiper blades.  Of course, one was bad, and both needed replacement.

There are lots of RVs in and through Kerrville, but not much in the way of Truck/RV "stuff" availability, or so I had always thought.

Short version of this story: I was directed to a large Car Quest Store, Best Auto Parts, 1805 Water Street, in Kerrville (East of the center of downtown), and these folks are a genuine Truck (and therefore, sort of "RV" Supply) Supply house!  Really well-equipped ( Example: constant torque hose clamps in many sizes and by the bin-full!) and they have a great " order in" capability.

The Boss searched several catalogs (the paper kind), found 2 different "possibles" to match the Bosch Blade I had taken off, but couldn't be certain of the thickness of the frame at the center where the mounting bracket and bolt are.  So, he ordered 2 of each, (and this was at 4PM) and said they would be in at 7AM the next day.  They were in at 9AM; don't know about 7 AM. 

The blades are really heavy-duty, part # CWP 657-261, List 66.30, Net 39.78.  Both the part ID and the Store location are worth saving!  (And no they are not cheap, and in my past experience,  quality heavy duty blade assemblies never are cheap.  Yes, you may be able to find a Wal-Mart-class auto blade that may fit, but don't expect a long service life.)  YMMV.

Good choice you made to go for the heavy duty parts.  I once tried the O'Reilly part approach and those refills lasted a couple of months.  Then I went back to truck duty wipers and blades.

We stopped in Ardmore, OK, on the first night of a two week adventure during which we expected rain, sleet, and snow. I realized our wiper blades were in bad shape. I went to an O'Reilly store and wandered about looking lost. I had the wiper off the coach in my hand. A clerk helped me find an refill that fit just right. $8 for the set. It can be worthwhile to take the blade in with you to see if you can find a replacement or refill.

Sometimes you can get good help at the O'Reilly store.

The refills were probably not the quality you got, but they have served very well for eight months so far. $40 for a good quality set of blades that fit sounds good. Thanks for the information.

Maybe you can write to the CEO of O'reilly's and let him know they are getting equal press, good and bad, here on the forum. He might send you a check too.
