Oil seal c8.3

As I posted recently I have a leak at the damper end of the engine.  It is getting worse and so far a additive sealant is not working.  I am getting different answers from different places.  When I called Cummins and asked what their book rate was I could not get a clear answer.  They want me to bring it to shop and leave it and they will then make an ESTIMATE.
It appears that their fix is to pull the damper and pulley, pull the rear cover and all associated bets and pulleys, remove the motor mount and support engine and THEN replace seal.
Other mechanics that appear to be competent tell me that all that is needed is to pull damper pulley and then pull out old seal and replace it with new.  At this point I don't know who to believe.
Anyone here has any experience with this repair.?
Thanks
Gary B

Gary, The 8.3 Cummins front oil seal is replaceable by removing the damper assy. Then you should be able to remove the seal with out any further disassembly.
Like most things on Cummins, they are designed for being repaired in a simply manner.
Cheers.
