Chrome lug nut covers

Today, I decided to clean my chrome wheels.  When I rubbed on one of the chrome nut covers it came off in my hand. I thought these screwed on but they just pop on with a tap.  I cked all the wheels and found several loose.  The rear had several loose so the large chrome cover over the axle was also loose. Tapped all back in and everything is tight again.  You may wish to ck yours once in a while, especially if you loose a nut cover.  Tks DAN

I have both slide on and screw on lug nut covers on my coach.  Seems like there is always the exception.  I had a grade school teacher who impressed me with this maxim:

It is the exception that proves the rule.

Now, all we have to wait to hear about is Einstein's Theory of Relativity flawed?

We have the screw-on covers and they do come loose.  We found this out last year when we were taking our driving course in Yuma, AZ.  The instructor was walking next to the coach as I was slowly moving forward.  We both heard this "squeak, squeak, squeak....." coming from the left front wheel.  At first we thought it was the brake, but it turned out to be one of the lug nut covers.  When I tightened it, the noise was gone.  I now tighten them (tool was in the shelf above my propane tank) before any long trip and I do periodically find some that are loose.

If you need replacements both screw on or slip on, MOT has them reasonable as I purchased a few threaded types.

I'm not sure about the theory of relativity but as of today it appears that what we have considered as a "law" of physics, nothing is faster than the speed of light, may be wrong. It's kinda like learning that the earth was not flat when anyone could readily see that it was flat.

Well, then we can say Warp 5 Mr. Sulu.... for we have to go faster than the speed of light to do that.....

As to covers, I lose a few every so often, though it is usually after a particularly rough road. The last one was in IL.

All mu replacements have been the threaded type, have had less problems.  Lost total of 1, but I changed a few others over to the threaded types, MOT has them, what I call cheap.  ;D

Two weeks ago I ordered two from MOT at $6 each plus S&H.  First time I bought them in 2008 they were $3 each.  I think I bought at least 6 or 8 of them at that time and have since gone through that supply, plus a couple more.  I lost the last one to a cheap A_ _ owner of SOB who felt that a guy driving a Foretravel would not mind if he borrowed" one from me.

I put a little silicone on the lugnuts to keep the chrome covers in place.

Be careful when you have tires serviced at a tire shop. I had several stripped last time I bought new tires. Now I take them off first. They strip easily if overtightened.

What a coincidence.  I removed all the lug nuts and the top hat from my rear wheels to get ready for the ABS repair tomorrow.  That way I can put them back on safely.
