Back up camera monitor distrance calibration tip
Our new to us coach has a new large camera monitor, thanks to Kent Speers. We have added some lines to the screen to help us know the distances showing on the screen.
We used a white pitcher, and a tape measure to set the outside back distances, of 3', 7', 10', 20' and 40'. On the dash screen we put some drafting tape that is "dash/dot/dash", 1/16" wide, and half as long as the screen is wide. Dolly made labels for the footage lines and stuck them to the screen. Now it is easy to back into a parking space using the 3' mark, or to the truck for hook up, or motorcycle trailer hook up. In addition we know with a glance as we pass some thing, it is a clear 20-40' back and we are good to start back in to the right lane.
We also added a black tape to the "shelf" on the rear to mark the center point for the hitch and know that when backing, the trailer hitch is right on when the coupler just disappears.
