40' Grand Villa Zip Dee Awning

The 1993 40', U300 we have does not have a patio awning. We want to have a standard Zip Dee installed. If you have a 40 foot Grand Villa, we would very much appreciate having a photo of the placement of the awning on the coach and the length of the awning. This will help us in placing the order and the installation.

Thanks!!!

Hi Kent,  Mine is 18' long..  ::)  I am going to look for some additional info. as I had to do some research this past summer to fix my bent tube....  There is a MotorHome junk yard in KY that had a new 19' but I can't remember the details.....

Thanks Gerry, we found a photo of a 40' U280 and now know where the awning should go. Since I am unable to install the thing myself, I guess I will have to order a new awning from Zip Dee to insure the local installer has all of the hardware needed.

Kent here is a pic of my 92 U300. I only have a 12' tape but guessing it's 18'. If you really need it I'll have Dori help me measure it. :)

Can you do me a favor and send me a picture of how your starting batteries are mounted? I'm thinking I may relocate mine somewhere down the road. IIRC you said yours are in the engine compartment not in a bay. Only do this if you feel up to it!!

Thanks Ken, I will try to get a photo tomorrow. The starting batteries are just inside the rear louvered door behind the bumper. I will see if I can get a photo of the mount. They are very convenient in that location. The house batteries are in the bay door just behind the driver side rear wheels mounted on steel trays. I will also try to get a photo of their location.

I noticed from your photo that you have an extra radiator grill above the main radiator. I don't have that. What is it for.

That sure is a great paint job and a good looking coach!!!

Hey Kent,

The radiator is a large single fan radiator that is about the same size as the upper and lower louver combined. The upper louver is not very functional since that area is mostly the upper reservoir which doesn't need the air flow. I think most of the later models went with a shorter longer 2 fan unit.

I had Dori help me measure and our awning is 18' long.

My house and starting batteries are in the drivers side bay door in front of the rear wheels. I have 3 deep cycle batteries there. Two house and one starting. I'd like to add 3 starting batteries and leave the 3 deep cycles for house batteries. There is room behind the bumper on my unit. A picture of yours will sure help me explain to a welder what I'm trying to do.

Did Justin aka Biscuit paint your coach or was James still there when you had it done? I saw your coach on the Foretravel website back when I was thinking about painting mine. It was definitely an inspiration for me. I'll bet everyone thinks it's a new coach. I get that all the time. It never gets old.  ;D

I really hope we get to meet up down the road. We could spend at least a day comparing coaches!

No rush on the picture it will be next year before I do anything.

Thanks to all. I believe we have what we need.

Ken, Justin did the work. It may have been one of the first redo's after James departed. The previous owner was the one that picked the color scheme. There are so many color transitions, I'm betting Justin wouldn't do it again and yes I get that question about the age of the coach all of the time. I too am looking forward to meeting you and Dori and comparing the coaches. Jeff and Carol are here at the house now, come on down.

Hey Kent, are you getting the slide brackets that the main arms mount on? Without them the main arms may be a bit low at the point of attachment when the awning is deployed. I saw a few coaches with the manual awnings that had those brackets. Sure wish I had them on ours. With your considerable vertical stature you will be ducking around them all the time. This, only if you are getting the manual awning.

Our U225 had the sliders and I still hit my head but I will get them for the new one. They do get the horizontal arms up higher. Thanks for reminding me about that.

Kent,

We hang our tiny string lights on those angled arms, hardly ever hit my head on your old awning arms.  Sure nice to be able to sky them up out of the way with the slides.

But Dave, your not quite as vertically endowed as I am. And, probably a whole lot smarter. I did hit my head more than once.

Kent Speers asked: "I noticed from your photo that you have an extra radiator grill above the main radiator. I don't have that. What is it for."

Kent, I have that same extra grill; in my U-280 it provides access to the radiator fill cap for coolant to be added directly into the radiator and not through the overflow tank. Unfortunately, there is very little clearance (about 3") betweent the fill opening and the top of the compartment. Very difficult to get coolant without using a remote hose.
