VMSpc for the 5.9B Cummins and other Mechanical Diesels...

I'm sure someone has covered this but I couldn't find it either here or on the Silverleaf web site. Is it worth getting the PC version for a U225? It would be nice to have and would help me decide to get a Co-Pilot GPS system to run on the same laptop (or, more likely, netbook). But if the information from the mechanical diesels is not detailed enough then it might be less useful.

Cummins mechanical B5.9 & C8.3 have NO electronics. We only have two 12-volt parts to our C8.3 (other than starter).

1) Temperature controlled intake manifold pre-heat (wait to start).
2) Fuel shut-off solenoid (opened by start & held open by ignition)

We have no reportable VMS-PC items from our Cummins engine. There are a few reportable VMS-PC items from our Allison 6-speed World Transmission.

I was afraid that the totally mechanical nature of the 5.9B would mean no signals for the VMSpc to see.

I have used a fuel flow meter on boats that can be combined with GPS readings to give GPH. These work by means of a paddle-wheel in the fuel line and another in the return line. Simply integrating the (calibrated) readings with speed information works. You don't get anything other than gallons-per-hour (or miles-per-gallon depending upon how you set things up) and on a motorhome it's probably not worth doing. I was just hoping that the FTs had some other bit of data that the VMSpc could hook into.

And some of us do not have the intake pre heat,or wait to start,  must be a southern thing.
