Gear Heads, New Allison TC-10

Just read about this new TC-10, 10 speed from Allsion, Do not know much about it right now, but keep your ears up as it sounds like it will wind replacing the 4000 series,
It is being tested now in a bus, so who knows.
Found this on another fourm dealing with buses.

Sounds like the enghineers are up to the auto industry's fuel mileage race...maybe these will become popular for hydrogen fuel cell or 100% electric coaches (engine included) coaches????    :o    8)    ;D    :-*

Thanks Gary, The point I failed to mention is how much smoother the shifting is with this new 10 speed, seems that is a biggie for the RV customer.  Time will tell if / when this actually hits the street and has a period to work out the bugs if any.  Sure sounds interesting.

Dave, With all the other improvements that you have made I am sure that you can figure out how to install a ten speed in your FT. :)

Gary, Have to say the thought has blinked (not real serious) between the ears, I know the approx cost for a new 4000 is in the $17,500.00 range with retarder.  Wonder when a retarder might be offered with the TC-10.
I will go for the glass dash before that transmission, as the  current unit does great.  Besides 6 is better than 4.  The perfect box for one of these units would be a 6 speed with the upper 3 real close, 1 low and 2 in middle. 3rd for some towns
On the other hand with the 500 hp, 36' Coach and  the 4060R, it has never gone below 5th on any mountain I have had it on including that 7% on I-64 in WV  called Sandstone Mtn.  On Sandstone, towing, lowest  was 58 mph on the 6 mile mtn. That is a good dyno test for cooling system too.
