HELP Dometic Sidewise

Does ANYBODY on here have a Dometic Sidewise refrigerator?

I am looking to get the front to rear dimension WITHOUT the doors. Dometic, PPL and American Rv cannot give me the dimensions. I am looking at their replacement for our MH.

The measurement is critical because of our year MH the entry doors are 24" instead of later years 26".

Thank you

Kerry,

With the doors removed, my side by side went out my 1995 U320 24 inch front door just fine.

You will need to remove the inside grab handle, remove the bolts that hold the door latched shut and release the strap at the bottom of the door to get maximum width.

Thanks all for replying.

Just trying to not have to take out the window to install new fridge. Getting lazy in my old age lol. IF the new Dometic with the doors off would be 24" or a shy less would be great!
Can't get dealers to measure and give those to me...even Dometic can't or won't....go figure???

Kerry,

Go by Lowes and purchase a Whirlpool 9.9 cu-ft residential that Barry and Cindy, myself and others have done.

Lowes will remove doors, carry inside, place it beside the dinette and re-install the doors to swing the other way as part of the purchase.  You can then determine the little bit of cutting to accommodate the new refrigerator and slide it in and plug it in.  The $360 or less price is way less than a new gas absorption unit.

I recently replaced the cooling unit on the Dometic refrigerator in our coach. After about 15 years of service, the cooling unit ruptured near the heaters. I was able to replace the cooling unit without removing the refrigerator from the coach. I pulled the refrigerator from the cabinet and did the work in the aisle in front of the sofa. It would have been a relatively easy job with two people. The cost to replace the cooling unit was about $660 plus shipping charges. You might want to consider repairing the refrigerator rather than replacing it.

We considered changing to the unit that Rudy suggested, but decided to replace the guts of the Dometic. We have been pleased with the choice. Other folk have been pleased with the residential units.

Kerry,

I totally agree with J. D. if you are going to stay with gas absorption.  An Amish Cooling Replacement Unit for your reefer is far more robust with 50% thicker wall tubing than anything Dometic has ever considered for a brand new unit.  And of course, much less expensive.
