Brett's 1993 U240 For Sale! More Info In Classified

OK, big decision.  Our 1993 U240 is for sale. 

This is probably the best maintained and upgraded Unihome in the country.  Below is a detailed list of "last performed maintenance items" and coach upgrades.

•   It is the preferred SPID layout (link below to floorplan).
•   Caterpillar 3116 turbo, inter-cooled diesel, Allison 6 speed transmission, side radiator.
•   Many, many custom/upgraded features.
•   158,765 miles (8,356/yr).  Driven once a month while in storage 35 hwy miles.
•   Stored indoors when not in use.
•   Complete maintenance logs.
•   A no smoking, no pet coach.
•   Overall MPG for life of coach (from 31,495 mi when we bought it in 1998) = 11.3 MPG.
•   $37,500.  About the price of the upgrades alone.
•   Located in Tucson, AZ until 3/9/12 then back toward Texas. 
 

Dianne and I have been sitting here going over our bucket list. 

A couple more long sailing trips and a big RV trip to the southern tip of South American which will likely involve a PU with Cab over, short Class C or something like an Isuzu-based Trek.  Kind of hard to use the Foretravel on any of them.

Brett,

After reading all your posts for the last couple of years, you have all the knowledge and experience to make any adventure a great success. Yes, pretty hard to hoist the main on your U240. After finishing our Foretravel workshop/garage this spring, we will also head out for our top 100 on the "bucket list". Can't stand to leave a good friend outside with a tarp on it while we are gone and know I won't be able to finish it if I wait much longer.

We have lost almost all of our elder family members the last couple of years and Woody Allen's "enjoy yourself, it's later than you think" song is playing with the volume turned way up.

Please post your latest travel plans and adventures as you go. If only from an armchair, a lot of us will enjoy the transformation from "pollywog" to "shellback".

New adventure is great but man I hate to think about you not being here.... Crap... can we reach you in South America or the high seas via internet...I hope that answer is yes.

Brett... once you get into Brasil it's an easy drive to central Argentina. Not sure beyond that. I assume you have a ham radio license??? If not, you will find it invaluable when cruising on the water. Not sure what the procedure would be for reciprocal licensing in all the countries but Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina (places I've lived) have been pretty good about it.

It will be an amazing adventure, no doubt about it. But I am not sure how well we'll be without you on the forum. Hope you check in often.

Actually, SSB was a LOT more useful in decades past.  On our first long sailing trip in 1991, we got a call from the High Seas Operator by SSB.  The loan officer for the folks buying our house back in Houston had to talk to us to make sure we were alive and intended to convey the property.  Our POA to our Attorney was not enough-- if either of us was deceased, property could not have been conveyed.  That was our first "let's sell the house and go full-timing" adventure (on a Pacific Seacraft Crealock 37').

These days, with a booster (Welcome to Wave Wifi, the #1 Name in Marine Wifi, Yacht Wifi, Marina Wifi & we were able to get internet over half the places we were in the Bahamas last winter.

I moved the booster off the boat and it is now on the motorhome.  Brings in hot spots from a long ways off.

Brett, Are you acquainted with Rick and Kathy Howe?  We met them in Nacogdoches at Encore RV several years ago (Oct 2007) when they were storing their 34 foot Foretravel and transferring stuff to their Tiger 4x4 motorhome.  They subsequently drove to the Arctic Ocean at the top of Alaska, turned back south and proceeded to Tierra del Fuego.  Jan and I rendezvoused with them in Ushuaia, Argentina, the southern most road in the world, in January 2010 when we were on a cruise around the Horn. 

They have a web site and travelogue at: travelin-tortuga.com  After South America they shipped their Tiger to Europe.  Last I heard they were in Morocco, Africa.  Nice folks and true adventurers.

OK, let's find a buyer who will appreciate this coach and we will move on---- to the boat and/or South America.

Have already had several inquiries-- from as far away as Alaska.

WOW Brett I never would have thunk it.  Can not imagine you not trolling the forum and dolling out spot on advice.  As for your coach, I am sure someone will jump on it.  I have been in it and I know how well kept it has been.  Hope you and Diane have the time of your lives and when you are done that you rejoin us.

I am very surprised and hate to hear this.  But I do understand....this is one reason why we got our coach in the fall of 2010.  Too many beautiful things to see in this country.

I do want to thank you very much for all the help and assistance you have given me. Your advice as well as the advice from many others here has helped me learn quite a bit about our coach and has helped save us quite a bit of money.  So THANK YOU very much for your input and guidance.

We will miss you.  But have GREAT travels.
