Thanks Michelle, I went back to my post and changed it.  Don't know what happened the first time.  I wonder if other members know that they can go back after a posting error and correct a mistake, just click on "modify" in the upper right corner of the post.  After the change click "save".  Only the original poster can do that or maybe the webmaster.

Pierce, do you have the part number for the tensioner for our 6V92? I think I am going to need one soon. Also where do you find shim washers? Did you just try different thicknesses until you found the right one?

Thanks!

I decided to re-post this in the topic I had started back when.

Started a two day project:

Today I removed both automatic belt tensioners, sanded and cleaned all rust from the area and used Ospho in preparation for applying a couple of coats of primer and enamel paint.  Let the Ospho work & dry overnight.  Then tomorrow (the plan, that is) prime, paint.  Install both new tensioners (thanks to Pierce, Bill C., Brett W., Gary B. and others who helped me to understand the removal & installation of these tensioners.

p.s.  Local Harbor Freight store had the dial angle finder for $5 just like Pierce said.

I always forget the camera...maybe tomorrow I won't and I'll take some pictures.

The hydraulic pump bracket is strong & secure, no need to have any welding at this point.

This job is finished.  Belt tensioners were both installed without problems.  All pulley angles matched the idler angles.  The belts run very smoothly.  I made a video, but it's too large to upload.  There are pictures in my Photos/Files section.

Kent,

I was lucky and the first washer I tried matched the angle on the engine and hyd motor perfectly. I looked at the mount, both on the block and at the pump to see why there was a discrepancy but could not find a problem. Tensioner was working fine so just shimmed it. has been working well since with no belt wear. Seems odd to have a washer in there but is working well and perhaps the 3 degrees is somewhere in the tensioner itself.

The HD Gates Green Stripe DriveAlign tensioner is available at: Search

The list is $206. They discount to $89.67  Tensioner gets good reviews. My Green Stripe belt also works great.

Would suggest you pull yours, get the part number and then call them to cross ref before ordering just to make sure.
