Wet Bay mods in progress

My grey water valve cable broke so I'm in the process of getting the wet bay modified at Classic Coach Works.  Attached are some pics of the wet bay torn apart. 
Here's my questions:
1. Has anyone ever modified their plumbing for the valves to eliminate the cable pulls for opening and closing the dump valves?  I was thinking of asking CCW to try and do this.  being able to actually grab the valve handle like other RV's appeals to me and it would eliminate the need for  a 3rd "back up" valve.
2. What's that thing in wetbay3 that looks like it has a fan on top of it??

I, too, like the idea of direct action handles for the valves rather than having cables in the system. Let us know the results of your repairs or modifications.

I use the third valve to enable back flushing the black water tank with grey water. Three flush cycles with water from the grey tank leads to relatively clear effluent from the black tank. The third valve also enabled sharing the capacity of the black water tank with the grey water tank. In a site without full hookups, sharing the waste tanks allowed us to defer a trip to the dump station.

The third valve serves more purposes than just a redundant valve in case of failure of a primary valve.

For sure ( and I'm glad I had one when the valve cable broke which started this whole thing), but I had CCW install a black tank flush sprayer for me :)
I just got off the phone with CCW and they are going to try and re-plumb the piping in the wet bay for direct access to the dump valves for me.  This would eliminate the need for a 3rd valve for me.

Hi Steve,
  On our 1997 U320 the valves have no cables. One has the T handle directly to the valve. The other has an aluminum rod extension to the T handle. I hope the pictures help, and show up.

I agree with J. D. keep the 3rd valve. It doesn't cost you anything and the gray water flush of the black tank takes advantage of the detergent from the sink, shower, and washer to help clean the black tank.

I like to pre-fill my black tank about a ¼ full with gray water after I dump it. Driving a couple of hundred miles with the "detergent" water really helps clean the crap (pun intended) off the bottom of the tank!

But as Dave M. likes to say do what makes you feel good! :)

I agree, keep the third valve. Makes it much easier to backwash especially at rest stop dump stations.

That looks like the Allison computer to me.  Does it have two big electrical connectors?
