Silencing the Waterpump - Ready Willing and Abel

Steve, as mentioned previously you'll never know how much I appreciated your help installing my new fresh water pump in 2010. My shoulder was really bad and Peggy said my whining was an Oscar level performance but with all of that said the pump still was incredibly noisy.

The rest of the story.

Recently I thought I had a bad accumulator tank so I had planned to remove it and replace the old Shurflo 2088 with a Shurflo 4008 as recommended by Barry and Cindy and to add the flexible tubing to quieten down the pump. The last few days I was able to repeat the Oscar winning bad shoulder performance and Dave Abel jumped at the chance to be my new Steve. You should see what Dave accomplished in just a few hours of intensive free work to help the old cripple. 

This morning I tested the accumulator tank and it was fine. It was still holding 27 psi so I decided to continue using the 2088 with the accumulator tank and save the 4008 for use at a later time. While I had the accumulator tank removed we (Dave) relocated the old pump to a more convenient location at the front of the bay and added the flexible tubing to help reduce the noise the pump made. Remember I had the old rigid gray butelyene tubing used as water line in the 1993, U300. I am amazed at how quiet the pump is now and how neat the compartment looks. THANKS DAVE!!!!

The bottom line is if you have an older Foretravel and have not yet installed the flexible line to the fresh water pump, its worth the effort, Especially if you have some good friends around to take pitty on you and actually do the job for you.

We also had some input from FJM502 and Dick S. I am sure Dick will have some disparaging remarks and photos regarding my use of silicone to fill old screw holes but Dave was the primary actor. OK, thanks to Dick and Felix also for their moral support. Its amazing how you can make some great friends in just a few days at Camp Foretravel.

Interesting!  So where does the flex tube tie into the existing plumbing and how?  I think I may just try this on my next pump install.

By the way, where you guys at?  We may head that way, think my shoulder might be hurting!

Nice clean install! Looks easier to service and you don't have to bend over as far.

How about moving the heating duct up so it blows on the pump in it's new location in winter?

  Your welcome for the help..Couldn't bear any more sore shoulder/back stories!!!  Not sure I'll ever get past using silicone caulking!!!

Benjie,  We just used about 12-14" of flex tubing ran to the existing plumbing, using 90° connectors on the plumbing end.. Relocated the pump towards the front of the bay, to make future access easier..Worked out great..

Pierce, I would move the vent but I would have to bend over to do it and it doesn't work anyhow. Seems to be some blockage in the duct work under the bathroom floor where I can't get to it. Dave offered but I just couldn't allow him to spend the whole day working his fingers to the bone.

Steve, I did offer Dave a breakfast beer but thankfully the help turned it down. And yes, I did make sure the hole pattern of the 4008 was the same just in case you or Dave were not around if I need to put in the new pump.

Kent certainly has a silver tongue. And can you believe Mr. Urethane turning to silicone???

Let me clarify the silicone issue, we only used it to fill the old screw holes in the bay floor just in case there is ever a leak. Using silicone in this case is acceptable because there is no need for superior adhesion or elongation. And it was what I had on hand in a small tube. I am not abandoning my general preference for urethane caulk.

Mr. Urethane indeed!!! I can be flexible and apparently readily engender sympathy of good people.
