Oshkosh Chassis, Brake Pedal Pushback; 1987 Grand Villa

Perhaps I have been searching for the wrong terms, but I can find no information regarding what happened with the brakes during my test drive last night.

About three times, during extended moderate to heavy braking, the brake pedal pushed back momentarily against my foot.  I noticed no difference in braking.  When I mentioned this on the other thread, Bob mentioned these coaches have a backup electric power system for the brakes and that low pressure somewhere in the system would cause the backup system to come on and kick the pedal (thanks, Bob).  I'm curious what conditions may cause this and I'm hopeful someone could give me a ballpark estimate what it might take to fix it.  I don't need details.  I just would like to have an idea what I'm getting into.  Thank you.
Considering the move to full-timing.  Looking for a rig...

The hydraulic brake pump is probably bad.  Should not have it kick during drive. ,only ignition on without the motor running.  Electric backup was 50% of the nominal hydraulic power and the long underfloor brake pedal has some mechanical advantage for a tiny amount of manual braking.  Tiny.  Fix the hydraulic system for sure.  Belt loose?  Could be easy?
