Told different ways to level coach

Have been told that when you are ready to level your coach at your site you should do the following: " Leave engine running and on HWH board push Dump then push air twice to level the coach"  This was to lower the coach steps and be level.
I was at the factory and asked the shop foreman the same question.  He said: " Never heard of hitting dump button.  it would prevent the coach from leveling down and force leveling only by going up." No instructions from HWH say do that.  Have never used the dump button myself.
Which is best and what do you do???
Also he said make sure after a rain to lower the slide side first to take all the water off which may still be on top of the slide then go back to level  before retracting.  What do you do?? DAN

HWH Leveling instructions from the manual does not mention using the dump button first.

I'm at the HWH factory today and I will ask the question as I too want to lower the coach steps.

I have heard personal anecdotes of people dumping the air first, but have not read it in any recommended procedures nor do we do it.

Kind of like why drain the bathtub all the way then refill if all you wanted was a hotter (or cooler) bath or less water?  Adjust up or down; don't start completely over.

Well, I'm thinking that dumping the air first may not be such a bad idea, at least for our rig. We've been in a lot of pretty unlevel sights and often one or two corners is layed down all the way to the floor, pushing and indenting the foam stuff under the black vinyl stuff. Everything works correctly but I hate the fact that the coach will bottom itself out like that. I'm even thinking of taking along a few 2x10s like we used to do with our Class C.

Sometimes my leveling system gets confused? It will level the coach, then wake up and re-level and at times pump the airbags full of air. At this point the coach is way out of level. I turn the system off wait and turn it back on hitting the level button twice to automatically level and voila it will dump the air from whatever bags and level itself. This usually in an unlevel area where the coach had a bit of trouble leveling initially. ::)

Per Joe, HWH service manager, he says to dump air if you want the coach lower, then auto level, then slides out.  I suspect he won't put this in writing though!

I often dump first, especially if on a level pad and at a long term spot, so to have the step lower. Doesn't seem to confuse the leveling ystem or cause any problem.  My DW, however, is usually outside checking the clearance of the the rear mud flap and if needed attaching the hook I made to prop it up.

Never saw it in writing but just seemed logical to do.

I generally don't use the dump button, unless I'm in a storage situation on a level surface.

The benefits of the dump first are likely a lower front step, and the coach may also sit down on the stops and feel more stable then if its up on the air bags, obviously that depends on the site.  For example I would not back in to a site at the factory campground and then it dump.

I generally just use the auto level (with the engine running so it has the benefit of the larger compressor), and let the system lower/raise corners as needed, but we also have the double entry step so mostly the front step height is not an issue.  On ours the system attempts to lower before it raises any corners to get level.
