Cleaning Awnings (was Re: What did you do to your coach today)

Washed the three awnings on the drivers side of the coach.  I was able to get out all the black grease marks and all the dirt that was embedded in the fabric.  It took hours of scrubbing and washing but it was time well spent.  They now look like new.

We found a video on YouTube called Zip Dee Awning Fabric cleaning.  The recipe amounts we used was 1/2 cup dawn dish detergent, 1/4 cup of bleach and 1 gallon of water.  We have a small electric 1000 PSI high pressure water hose that we used to thoroughly rinse the solution off of the awning.

I use a mild mixture of TSP in warm water. Never had a problem as long as not too concentrated. I use it for a lot of things, right Kent?? My awnings are a burgundy colour and no fading from it.
Rinse well after.

Won't TSP remove the wax (if any) on your coach sidewalls? I have used it to remove the wax on my boats as part of the Red-Max pro application process.

Dean, it may remove some but if you use it on the awning how will it get on the paint??

John I assure you I will get it everywhere.... :D Seriously though I think I will give it a try as I have some on hand. How much TSP do you use per gal. of water?

Zip Dee recommends only a mild SOAP (not detergent) such as the old Ivory flakes on the Sunbrella awning material. In fact for years they have sold a mild soap for just this purpose. Stronger stuff can remove the weatherproofing.

Have you run TSP by the folks at Zip Dee?  800 338-2378

I use the crystals as I found the liquid useless. 1 tblspoon to a gallon of warm water. and I use a car wash brush-but carefully, then rinse with hose. Have not lost waterproofing or colour.
